Iphone 4 does not work with sync?
There is nothing you can do about it. iOS-4 does not work with Ford Sync. It has to do with the bluetooth and USB functioning at the same time. the iPhone will work as a phone, forget SMS, or MMS or as an iPod Touch not both. If you want to use the music functions you have to turn off bluetooth which cripples the phone, keep Bluetooth on and you have little control over playback.
My wife has a 2010 Edge and my phone works fine in there as well. She has an Android phone and it actually has more problems than mine does in the same car.
I also had 2 other '11 F-150's that I had for a week each prior to my truck being delivered to my dealer and I didn't have any issues with my phone in them either. I can take it a step further on top of that and in the last 6 months have had 4 2011 Edge's and 2 2011 Explorers and never had an issue in them with the MyFord Touch / Sync system in them either.
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's all about the iOS4, but definitely seems to be more people having problems with it than not.
TJFX2EB it would seem some of the problems stems from Dealer ignorance. The general consensus on the Apple/Ford Sync forums is if Sync is working with your iPhone threaten the dealer with instant death if they touch the system. One of the gigantic problems that will be fixed in iOS 5 is you will be able to sync your iPhone without an iTunes account on a separate computer system. It has been found people who are running around without home computers, and therefore no iTunes to sync their iPhones with have iPhones that have never ever been updated from the day they purchased them. With iOS 5 Apple will be able to push out updates for iPhone, and iPod Touches via wireless means. With iCloud also a part of iOS-5 all of your purchase are automatically stored in your remote account. the iPod Touch, and the iPhone will be even more independent of a separate computer system.
It is interesting you note the trouble your wife is having with the Android phone. There is all of the hype about the Android OS but the bottom line is the iPhone is still an easier smart phone to actually use.
