Costco batteries are good from what I've heard but I don't want to pay $100 for the privilege of shopping there.

I've returned a couple of batteries to Super Walmart when they failed early and except for the long line at customer service, I haven't had a problems and they're always been entirely fair about giving me the full value of the old battery. I don't know about Costco in that regard.

YMMV

  • Just pick one.
  • Buy a battery maintainer and use it occasionally as preventative maintenance as well as anytime the truck will sit for a few days or more.
  • Keep jumper cables and a portable battery jumper in your truck as part of your general preparedness plan (JNC 660 is my favorite hasn't failed to start any vehicle for me in years and years...usually other people's)

Well, the truck is a 2018 Platinum and uses a 94R. Not many choices since it isn't an FLA, but an AGM. Going rate from all brands is between $170-$300+. Since they aren't cheap, hence the question. I know Interstate USED to be good, but since I haven't been in the shop for the past 25 years, I don't know the longevity of them anymore. Walmart doesn't have a 94R, and the other places near me are as much or more than the Interstate. Sams Club does not have one, nor Costco. Or I can wait until the 14th for
this this
.

I carry a starter pack with me, my wife was given it to her from work, and we have two of them now. It has just enough for two jump starts provided the battery has some capacity, but found out earlier this week that if the battery has more than one weak cell, it won't start the car. Her Focus battery bit the dust Monday morning, and in the process her car flooded. I could not get it started no matter what I tried, two different charger/starters and the portable one. Once I replaced the battery, and that one is a Walmart one, I was able to get the engine started and all is good now.

The battery in the truck has a weak cell, and as long as I drive it twice a week, no worries, for now, but that doesn't mean on a really cold day it won't give up.

Yep, I've got a CTEK. Good charger/tender. The OP should get one. It might revive the battery he's got now before buying a new and even with a new battery he will need a tender if the truck continues to sit un-driven.

I have this jump pack, it'll do multiple starts on a charge, and *will* handle a totally dead battery, like, not registering even the dimmest LED's inside the vehicle.

I have the same one. Never tried it for jump starting but have charged a lot of camera batteries, phones, and laptops with mine. KM

I would go out and get a Smart Charger that can repair, I brought a group 31 Deep Cycle that was in my Pool Vacuum back from the dead with my NOCO Genius 7200, it would not charge but now it is holding a charge without any problem.

I do have one, its the reason I haven't replaced the battery yet. It can only do so much for a weak cell though, once they get to a certain point, they can only hold so much reserve before they drop out. Right now I can go for about a week and a half without starting before it drops off. As long as I drive it for at least 20 minutes once a week, it stays charged.
