Existing plastic insert bed liner that comes up and over the bed rails. Installing a Rack It lumber rack. No access to inside bottom of bed rails to mount lumber rack.

Who has been here before and how did you bolt down the lumber rack? Toggle bolts? Make a hole in The bed liner to get a wren h in there? Other?

 

You have to cut patches out of the bedliner so that the feet and mounting points on the rack with sit right. The only way to get around this is a spray in liner. I used to install these things all the time, I HATED cutting the bedliner it's such a PITA and you always have **** fall in the holes and get trapped under the bedliner. A spray in is the way to go with a ladder rack.

 

I have not installed the lumber rack, but my F150 had the over the rail bedliner insert and I installed a tool box. I just used a dremel tool to cut a hole in the liner so I could install the mounting clamp to the bed rail.

 

What you have said about the holes letting junk in under the liner is true. I went and found an under the rail bedliner at the local pick-and-pull for $35 and that ended the junk getting under the liner.

 

I hate that, pull the bed liner out and there is about an entire wheelbarrow full of mulch, dirt, grass clippings and various other JUNK!

 

Yeah, I really don't want to cut holes in the bed liner unless no other way. Especially after see the responses (thanks all!) I am thinking some kind of a toggle bolt to secure the lumber rack.

 

Can you post a picture of what type of rack you are installing? I will then tell you what is acceptable, I used to work in an aftermarket accessories shop putting these things on all the time and doing custom fab work for FBI rapid response F-350's and 4x4 VAN conversions for swat teams.

Attached are a few pictures of the bed liner and rack. The rack is currently not bolted down - the blue straps are holding it on.

The area of the bed liner above the wheel wells protrudes out about 3/4", holding the rack out that distance - I plan to notch the metal of the rack rail above to allow the rack to slide flush to the side.
