I'm an Idiot!
B-Rad, chalk it up to a lesson learned. I did the exact same thing last summer. I unscrewed the plug and because it was hot, I let it fall into the oil pan not thinking anything of it. I went and changed the air filter when I realized that I was standing in a puddle of black oil. Guess what I will never do again. Like I said, lesson learned.
Wait until you change the oil filter and neglect to remove the old gasket....I did that trick several years ago and had a completely oil-sprayed engine compartment, OK if you live in Key West where air-born salt does a real number on cars.
I know what you mean Kattumaram. My grandpa has a place in Key Largo that he stays out half the year. Salt water does some nasty stuff to motors. In fact he had one of his outboards pulled off his boat the other day to find a nice cracked block in 2 places. Good thing is was still under warrenty until April!
