We live in Ontario, Canada and we pay $0 (zero) for non-commercial vehicles, used to be $60/yr until 2022

I had to LOL at the last line of this post. I can't imagine why anyone still lives there, even if they can afford such ridiculous taxation.

All this is in addition to vehicle registration & yearly safety/emissions testing.
We used to get a yearly license plate sticker & an actual registration card from the state. Now they did away with the sticker, but still charge us as if we got one. The registration is printed out on the owner`s home computer.
try owning property in Northern NJ... a 1/4 acre corner lot with a 2 family duplex & 1 br basement apartment costs $26,724 per year.
Add in County & NJ Income tax, legal retainer, & 10% management fee... suddenly being a "landlord" makes you a "land subject".

Some states base registration fees on value, and it declines each year.

Some states have personal property taxes (South Carolina, Massachusetts), and in addition to registration make you pay an annual fee to your county/township based on value. It can be quite large. SC also has low property taxes, so it "averages out", but Massachusetts does not.

For those that get EVs, some states are now charging a tax/fee for not using gasoline. Some are $100, some around $150. In Michigan, all registrations are tied to one owner's birthday, so if you buy say 6 months before your birthday, that fee is NOT pro-rated. Then, 6 months later you pay it again.

Georgia. Every year I walk into the tag office, hand the lady one of these, and walk out with a new sticker. In and out in about 5 minutes.

In Ohio plate renewal is reasonable. Pay less than $200 for two vehicles. That includes and extra $20 that the county charges for trucks.

No state inspection. No reformulated gasoline.

2013 F150 reg cab short bed 5.0 engine 2017 4WD. 2017 Ford Edge 3.5 engine 4wd. No turbo's here.

Clinton, eh? We lived off I-75, about 12 miles up the valley, out past Jacksboro and LaFollette for just over 8 years. LOVED it up there! I worked at the "Big Orange store" on Schaad Rd off Clinton Hwy. This was the view from our front door.
