The lower the number the darker. It's a way to measure the amount of light that comes in. Example: 30% is lighter then 5%. Always the amount of light that comes thru the tint.

Factory tint is usually 20%. My truck has 20% to match the rear windows.

Not sure about where you live, but here in Ga. I can have my two door windows done for around $25.00 a window. I wouldn't think any higher then $35.00 a window honestly. Make sure the place you go to use's a quality tint also.

do they put it on when the window is up or do they take apart the entire door and put it on?

In some case they remove the window and tint it. Like my wife's Accord. It has a *dead* window behind the rear door windows and the guy that tints all my cars removed it so he could apply the tint in front of some plastic trim. Most cases they tint it on the car with the window up. They have to roll it down of course to cut along the top of the glass and removes bubbles and such.

The only time they remove the door panel is usually to install felt in the window tracks. Which believe it or not, some vehicles don't have.

You should also check the laws of your state. Different states allow different levels of tint on the various windows. For example, Washington state allows 35% max on all side windows and the rear window, and none on the windshield. It also specifies that if you have the back window tinted you must have dual side mirrors.

My windows have probably about 25% tint (done before I bought the truck). If I were to get stopped a cop could make me remove it if it's too dark. A lot of tinting shops here will install darker tint but you have to pay them cash so there's no record of it.

I've heard stories of cops making people strip their tint on the side of the road...not sure if it's some sort of urban legend or what?!?! Here in Ga. they just issue you a ticket and of course you pay it and go about your way. I haven't been ticketed in years ( knock on wood ) for window tint.

Same thing also goes here for anything under 35%. Cash only and they'll give you a receipt that says for *show only*.

When I lived in CA my ex and I had a Cadillac STS with pretty dark tint. I got pulled over and the cop knew I was going too fast but didn't have me on radar and wasn't able to pace me. So, he went after the tint. I could have it removed and not pay the ticket or pay the ticket and still have to have it removed. *****hole.
