How to disable security for keys
I recently purchased a 2003 F-150 7700 factory CNG/gas bi-fuel truck, and it unfortunately came with only a single key. For whatever reason, the dealership cannot program the second key - an error keeps being thrown. The mechanic worked on this for over an hour, and I was told that a couple mechanics looked at this, but none of them had confidence to try much as they were afraid they'd mess up the CNG. I have a heck of a time keeping track of things, especially keys. What do I need to do to remove the security, so that I don't have to use special keys? Thanks - Baskervi
easy way to do it is to dig out the transponder out of your current key. if you look at the top of the key, youll see a little square cut out.. get a little pick tool and you may have to mangle the plastic a little, and pop that cover off. you can then slide out the transponder. remove the plastic steering column cover and you can zip tie it near the key cylinder so that it will always read it. then you can cut as many keys as you want.
thats a cheap way to get around it. i believe that a custom tuner might be able to turn off the pats system if you wanna spend a few hundred dollars for one.
