Default ProComp Pro Runner SS leveling shocks

4-wheel parts is offering free installation on them, which seems like a nice perk.

Has anyone tried these out? They are apparently supposed to be a competitor to the Bilstein 5100s. I am curious to know how comfortably they ride. I don't do any serious offloading but wouldn't mind a little sportier feel in my truck provided it didn't feel too rough on the highway for road trips.

I just had a pair of pro comp pro runner shocks installed on my truck today. I purchased them at 4wheelparts they were $104.99 each with free installation. they gave me about 2 7/16" of a lift over stock. I hope they will settle a little. I was told they give me about 2" of lift.

I just had these installed yesterday, as well. I found them to have LESS front-end lift than the 2" Autospring spacer. I was having contact issues between the coil springs and the upper control arms with the autospring. I do not have that issue with the Pro Runner SS shocks. I think I prefer the look of the truck now with a little remaining rake. (See attached pictures - the poor quality night photograph is the Autospring leveling kit)

I didn't notice much change in the way the vehicle rode with the spacers, other than it felt a little wobbly to me in turns at speed. That could have been a result of the height or it could have always been there with the factory shocks, I'm not really sure. The new shocks definitely have a sportier feel that is greatly enjoyed during turns. They do feel firmer in general, the floaty feel is gone from the stock ride. I'm happy with them right now, I will update when I have had them for a few weeks and have more opportunity to test them out.

My ability to test them out further has been hindered by the fact that my front driver's side hub is not disengaging during 2-wheel-drive, causing a horrendous grinding sound. I'm not sure if it's bad luck or bad technicians, but it happened immediately following an alignment last night.

For me the jury is still out if I like them or not. It is diffidently fimer than the factory ride. I just sold my jeep rubicon, lifted with rancho 9000xl shocks. The ride is more like my jeep now. The view out the front windshield is very different with no rake. From the top of my tire to the bottom of my wheel well I now have 9 3/16". Before the install I had 6 3/4". The rear, measuring in the same way, is 9". I am hoping the front will settle to at least 8 3/4", but I don't think it will. It looks like your truck sets a little lower in the front than mine. Could be because the motor weight. I have the ecoboost. Who did your alignment?

I agree it is firmer and will have to see what I think after the excitement of being able to turn fast wears off! The truck drives a lot more sporty now. You'll get used to the change in perspective in short order.

I measured from the top of the wheel to the fender flare (a very subjective measurement, by the way!) as comparison and ended up with between 8 and 8.5 inches in the front and 8.5 and 9 inches in the back. I have a half inch difference from center of wheel to fender flare, too, which seems to be a more common way to measure. I don't think that translates to a half inch of rake, as I think the front fenders have a higher cutout. I definitely lost some height, as you can see in the picture. It's odd that you got so much more. I have a 5.4L engine, but I'd be surprised if it makes that much of a difference.

NTB did my alignment. Of course they are claiming it is in no way related to the alignment, and I can understand their perspective that it shouldn't affect it. But it's hard for me to swallow that after 36,000 miles of error free operation the IWE system is failing within one mile of leaving from the alignment on the wheel that they needed to make corrections to. I guess anything is possible. I'm going to try to get it fixed under warranty.

Narsus. How did the repair on your truck go? The ride on my truck has gotten better as the front end has settled a little. It now is just over 2" of lift. A friend of mine, who just bought an F150 4x4, is trying to talk me into a camburg lift. He's has a friend that can get him a great deal, but still a lot of money.

The repair went surprisingly well, actually. It seems the culprit was loose bolts from the install of the shocks at 4 Wheel Parts. I took the truck to the dealership to figure out what was going on and they found bolts that had been hand tightened only. The result was, according to them, the CV axles were moving back and forth, causing the IWE actuators to be damaged. The dealership quoted just over $1000 for the parts and labor.

I wasn't very happy about that, and called 4 Wheel Parts to discuss. They contacted the dealership and arranged to have my truck towed the next morning to their shop. The next day, they obtained the actuators from Ford and made the repairs the dealership had quoted. I was impressed at how readily they accepted responsibility for their mistake and made it right, even reimbursing me the $130 diagnostic fee I incurred at the dealership. While I would certainly have preferred to avoid the situation altogether, I understand mistakes do happen from time to time. In my opinion, the integrity to make things right even if it means money out of your pocket outweighs the mistake, and I would use them again.

I'm glad you able to get your truck fixed. It's good to hear that 4wheel parts owned up to fixing your problem.

Default Warranty

I was looking at these shocks as well and I didn't see anything on ProComp's website about them having a lifetime warranty like the Bilstein's do. Can you guys that have purchased the ProComps verify if they come with some sort of warranty?

I believe I read some where that they do have a life time warranty, but you are right I can no find it on their web site. I am not all that satified with the shock myself. I find them to be very firm. I am considering going to the bilstein 5100's. A friend of mine is trying to work a deal on some fox shocks. It is hard when you can't drive other trucks with a different shock to compare.
