Hit and run help
On Sunday my truck was hit in the Enterprise, AL Lowes parking lot. A witness told me the following info. A maroon Heritage type F-150 backed into my truck and took off. He got the tag number ( 83C64Z9 ) but not the state. The local police said it's not an AL tag and my insurance company could only rule out FL. Can anyone help ID the state or person?
There are a few license search sites but you have to pay and who knows if the plate # is truly accurate. I am sure you placed a Police report and I wonder if your insurance company can keep an eye out for any truck fitting the description of hit & run truck on their system to see if it got repaired? Doubt it but would be cool...lol. CSI!
Plate # def not California.

That's def an AL tag or the witness got one of the numbers/letters wrong. Check out what I found on wikipedia. Don't know if it's true but if I read it correctly it should be a "double digit county" plate. This is the example for that type of plate, and the only example I could find like it: "00A12B3" (double-digit counties). Now, take your plate number the witness gave you and put these two side by side; same format. 00A12B3 / 83C64Z9

Now, the county code. It appears that the county code is 64 or 9 because I can't find an 83rd county in Alabama. 64 = Walker(Jasper) and 9 = Bullock (Union Springs) according to this website: http://www.15q.net/alco.html
I'm from NC so I'm just trying to take a shot in the dark to help you here, so i'm sorry if i've said something about the plates that is obviously wrong haha.
I'm doing more research as we speak, so sit tight i'll let you know what else I find in a few minutes!

I found where the plates are defined: http://www.15q.net/al.html
So the police were right, it's listed as the 83rd county and there isn't one. Hopefully the person just wrote the tag number wrong or it really is a different state.
Sorry for the confusion but i'll keep trying!
