Default hid headlight lifespan

so ive had my hids on my truck for about a year and six months and both of my bulbs went out. my hid vendor is claiming this is normal behavior. bi-xenon bulbs for my kit are 60 dollars a piece. meaning i would have to pay 120 dollars ever year and a half to replace the bulbs? that doesnt seem right. any input on this subject would be awesome.

Up to six times longer lifespan (HID = 2500hr, halogen = 400hr)

in a perfect scenario you would get the 2500hr lifespan, but if you had them on for 8hr per day they would only last 313 days.

DRL reduce the life since theyre on the entire time the car is on. alot of people mod the fog lights to be DRLs instead.

Seems like a short lifespan to me... My OEM VW HID bulbs have been going strong for 7 years.

It doesn't surprise me that less expensive chinese HID bulbs, which vary in quality quite a bit, might only last a year.

But $60 is also way too expensive for bulbs of this quality. DDMTuning has pretty decent stuff, $15 for regular HID bulbs, $35 for bi-xenon bulbs.

Lots of on/off will shorten bulb life, any grease on the bulb from installation will kill 'em as well.

yeah mine do not run during the day. and i dont really drive a lot at night. so i have no idea why they would only last a year and a half. like i said, the vendor is claiming that this is a normal lifespan. i do not agree. and he will not send me a new bulb. since im six months past warranty.

the way it went was one went out, so i ordered a new one no big deal, got the new bulb and before i even put it in the other one went out. i contacted the vendor and said that i didnt mind replacing one but replacing both is obsurd. im not paying 120 dollars for bulbs every year. he said that is what you need to do with hids. i explained to him that on his website it states they last for 10 times longer than stock bulbs. i had my stock bulbs up until the day my hids went in (three and a half years). that claim is total bull.

if someone could steer me to an actual company with quality components that doesnt bullshizzy me that would be awesome. price does not matter, quality matters.

i will post all of his companys info so others do not buy from him if he does not fix my issue.

Check out Ebay...there are a lot of vendors on there.

I have bought all my kits from there and you cant beat the prices. Out of all the kits I bought I have had one bulb go out on my truck after 4 months, but I called the vendor and he sent me a new one out no questions asked.

Wife's 08 fusion has had HID since Dec 07 and have yet to have a bulb or ballast go out.

Have them in my Mustang, but I rarely use the HID

Had a set in my Ranger for 3 years without bulb or ballast going out.

Have them in my truck since Sep and only a bulb went out so far.
