My guess is maybe while doing an oil change they accidentally loosed a connector or ground? Did the shop that did the oil change did the throttle body?

I don’t know off hand what model sparks it’s in the car cus I didn’t ask but what model you recommend and what gap? I can replace them with new ones with the model and gap you recommend and see how the truck feels
and no codes or check engine light
Especially if plugs were not pulled...that shop is only guessing the actual condition & when they were replaced !!
My two 2016's when bought were as yours are now just over the ford recomended replace mileage !!
Both my trks stumbled @ most traffic lights....I immediately had the plugs changed & trks ran fine afterwards...
Most people that lease a truck or plan to trade in the near future do not change the spark plugs when needed !!
Use only Motocraft spark plugs...They work well !!

!
and assuming they didn’t charge him labor for a plug change, I don’t think they were pulled, except for maybe one. If his wife “saw them pull the plugs”, I’m kind of guessing that she saw them pull out a COP, vs the actual plugs.
