I do do not feel comfortable driving a trailer in a truck with a driveshaft and U joint in “poor condition” for 4 hours with my two young children in the back. This is not an option.
I made a backup plan. Going to borrow my brother in laws Silverado and rent him a vehicle on my dime for the week. Not ideal but at least I found a solution.

You would have had more leverage at the selling dealer.

The timeline would have been reasonable had I not been told tomorrow 3 times. Again I get it, many parts take 3-4 days. But why not state upfront that this is the case. I may have had leverage or option of my selling dealer to get me into a loaner pickup rather than a Ford Focus.

Did the dealership give you a loaner?

I will I’ll try that. I want to genuinely say thank you for this suggestion as I hadn’t thought of that.
I was told that the part is not back ordered and should’ve been there by the service advisor. This was Monday when we spoke. He then told me that Tuesday it would be by mid morning. Obviously still no dice.
I came up with an alternative plan to make the trip happen. Unfortunately this will cost me a couple hundred bucks and some running around/favors. But at least the family will be happy and I’ll get to spend time with my niece.

Thank you you again for the response. I do appreciate genuine help.

I can tell you Ford calling the dealership will probably do nothing, The dealer should be contacting ford parts assistance and asking where it is, unfortunately now its just a waiting game. I would call the dealer and ask if they submitted anything to the parts assistance center

if it was only that easy, our facing depot could show the part but when the go to pull it and they don't have it then it gets referred to another depot, if this happens 1 or 2 times then you find yourself in the situation that you are in right now. it stinks but patience is your friend. but like i said i would get on the dealers case to submit something to the parts hotline, and find out why the driveshaft still hasn't showed

This explantation makes sense. Sad that it’s coming from you on here vs the dealer or the regional customer relations manager!! With that said, at least I will know that when service advisor tells me a timeframe for repairs to take it with a grain of salt.
I also will take Ford’s Certified Pre Owned status as lipstick on a pig. Yes I am sure they look at the basics like brakes and tires etc. but clearly this dealership doesn’t conduct the 172 point inspection the way Ford boasts they do on their website.
Thanks for the helpful info. Very insightful.

However the dealer should not have kept promising it for the next day, probably isn't the service advisors fault though. I would tend to lean more towards the parts dept.

yea the CPO inspection depending on who does it can either mean a lot about the vehicle or absolutely nothing. Its what i call the give a **** factor. I wouldn't let this issue spoil the whole truck though. That's why there is a warranty.

Trying to to keep an open mind. As I said my last 3 vehicles have all been Ford’s. Always recommend them. But this just left a bad taste in my mouth. I think the prospect of losing a planned vacation really weighed in. As I said I found a solution but it’s going to cost me.
Hopefully whenever the repair is made it will nip the problem and I can try to enjoy the truck like my previous ones.
Thank you again. It’s nice to see good helpful people on the Forum.

Well you were correct. After not hearing anything from anyone all day at 3:30 PM I called the service dept. He told me when the part still wasn't in he made a call and they told him the part was not found and the system was incorrect. He was told the part would not be in until Thursday August 16th ! I voiced my displeasure and told him this was costing me hundreds of dollars. He was apologetic and suggested Ford might pay for it. I may call one of the people that the members messaged me with and see if they are willing to do something. I remember about 10 years ago when my truck was leaking a significant amount water into the cab at 20K miles I had to bring it in 3 times before they finally found the problem. Ford replaced my floor carpets which stunk and gave me 3 free future oil changes.

The saga continues ....

you know what that tells me? the part went backordered and no one informed your service advisor. The part not being found bit was just a "story" to hopefully make them look better, the part went back ordered from the dealers facing parts depot. USUALLY parts are no more than 3 days out depending who has it but if they go backordered from that parts depot then the time frame to delivery increases, especially if it is coming from the other side of the country. I would be pissed too
