heat trouble
I have a 97 f-150 that won't blow out the floor vents. I have read all the nightmares about heat problems on this model and can't find anyone who has answered my problem. My blend door appears to be working and produces heat but nothing I do will make heat blow out the floor. I have vacuum at the switch and I can unplug the lines and suck on them and switch from panel to defrost but can never make air come out of the floor vents. My question is where is the actuator that opens this door and which color hose goes to it.

I know I found the legend for this schematic somewhere I just don't remember where

If defrost is default then doesn't there have to be a door and actuator that opens for heat? And Do I really need to look at the vacuum connection behind the battery if I have vacuum at the switch?
Did you not look at the post I put out there, there is a pneumatic drawing with legend and a detailed procedure to fix the actuator(s). Have a look you will have to scroll down in the posting to find the answer.
Now that I know which valve you are talking about, yes I have looked at that and hoses are soft and hoses and valve are not brittle. Still have good vacuum to back of switch. Should I be able to suck on one of the hoses, yellow or blue and swing door opento blow air out of floor?Looks like this door swings two ways. Atill have question about where in dash this door is. Thanks
nother question, I just pulled the hose that goes thru the firewall loose from the tee and truck has been idle for 45 minutes not running and still had vacuum built up it had to release. Doesn,t this say that I have no vacuum leaks?

I believe if you read the entire post, the guy that wrote it says it behind the same panel the radio is mounted in, like up from the cup holders and ash tray. Don't know about he suck thing though. I would say if you still had vacuum on that line there is no leak between it and the switch. By looking at that post that I attached you will see that all the actuator controls are in the same place and I believe that is next to the radio have to remove some dash panels to get to it.

Frome the posting....
"I promised a conclusion to this event after I joined the defrost-only club with my 02 F150. I started in front of the firewall an ensured I had good vacuum into the cab. From there, I pulled off the radio/controller face panel (it just snaps off towards the inside). I also pulled off the foot-panel kick plate, and the drink holder. I then pulled the HVAC controller out by removing 4 screws, then separated the air lines from the back. I then took out the 4 electronic/pneumatic actuators, and followed the text instructions to dismantle and replace the orings. There are lots of photos on this forum showing this already.
Shown below is the exploded actuator. Note the small (old) and compressed O-ring, and the new, larger one. His text indicates "only replace them if they look bad" - but I'd say go ahead and replace them anyway. I found 2 others that were shot. The old ones were actually brittle and cracked. I used diaelectric grease (sparkplug socket) very sparsely.
This really isn't that hard to do - thanks to the great posts and instructions out here"
It would be my guess the actuator you are looking for is lower, like just above the floor vents, not sure what side of the heater box. Sure would be easier if someone that has been through this piped in.
