this is funny as hell. so being a hard worker means you change your own oil?? it's not a very hard job...

some people work hard so they don't have to get their hands dirty and do more important things during their personal time then drain oil pans and what not.

not that I am one of those people, but I know folks who work their *** off, but DON'T do all their own vehicle work. Not sure how that makes them idiots, it's a choice.

some people would rather be with their family, or doing some sort of other beneficial activity other than wrenching

Yeah I can do all my work for myself but don't feel the need to pat myself on the back. Can't stand those who think they are superior just because of that...

Very true! So maybe "Hard Workers" isn't the best phrase to describe the people the OP is referring to. "People who can actually work with their hands" would be a better way to describe them maybe.

I see, well in that case I do all the work on my pickup except for alignments and stuff.

some people view vehicles as something to be passionate and knowledgeable about, others view them as an appliance. Neither side will ever see eye to eye

I don't pat myself on the back nor do I brag about being able to do my own work, I just don't trust anyone with my vehicle, not even to change my oil, and actually love turning a wrench lol... I don't think normal maintenance on a vehicle would take up a substantial amount of time, so much that it cuts into family time, an oil change brake job, it's not like you do it once a week... I mean hell, I can change my oil or brakes etc, faster than the time it would take to drive to the shop and then wait for them to do it, therefore that's more family time for me! Haha

There's a lot of people that pay for someone else to do the work that can do it themselves and that's why they work hard, to pay for "crap they don't care to deal with" and there's more that tell the tech that they can but they don't feel like it just to put a band aid on thier manly pride

The name of the thread is a bit misleading. I personally love to wrench on my truck and toys mainly because I'm to cheap to pay some one hundreds or more to do something that i can do my self, and I like an excuse to go tool shopping.

Like what? Sit in the waiting room at jiffy lube and catch up on good housekeeping, and then drive back and get your winning scratch tickets that the punk grabbed when he was vacuuming your truck cuz he "thought they were trash"?

Either way if someone else is doing these small jobs, people are usually sitting in a waiting room, not spending that time doing other important things... Unless they bring thier kids on a field trip to jiffy lube, Just sayin
