I have a 17 screw with HD tow pack. Finally had a chance to tow yesterday, and in my opinion these tires that I wasn’t real sure about to start with are pretty terrible.
I’m towing about 8500 pounds. Rig is rated for 12,000 so well below that spec. I do need to fine tune the WD hitch because it’s not quite riding flat.
It seems like the sidewalls seem pretty soft. But at the same time I know the shocks are garbage. The ride is like I’m riding on marshmallows. Just far more bouncy than I expected.
Looking for opinions here. First of all, are these tires as bad as I think? Do others like them?
Would you swap the shocks first or the tires? Note that the vast majority of my driving is on road without the trailer.
1) I would get the WD Hitch set up correctly before I did anything.
2) Go to the Towing forum and figure out your truck’s actual towing capacity. In the real world, towing capacity for F150’s is nowhere near 12k pounds. Depending upon what is on your stickers, you are probably close to being overloaded. https://www.f150forum.com/f82/number...w-read-392649/
I have had good service from my Hankook dyno pro HT OEM tires on my 2015 xlt scab 4x2. I tow 20' flat with full body Jeep + gear, 14' utility with UTV side by side and a Collman Niagra PUP 3200 lbs. I found these tires to excel in snow for an HT tire.
Note I did change rear shocks for a pair of KYB mono tube @ 38,000 world of difference especially, when unloaded, no more wheel hop and side slip on washboard road.
I just bought another set of new truck take offs from a 2017, I like the tires And the sport wheels they were mounted on.
Thanks for the replies. I will look at the numbers. I must admit that at quick glance, it seems confusing but I was a bit distracted while reading the link you referenced.
I likely didnt resear h enough when I bought this last rig. I hope I didn't make a mistake. I heard 12,500 (12,000 with screw config) as a capacity and made an assumption I'd be good. This would be an expensive mistake if so but I won't risk my families safety.
Im going to attach a photo of the stickers from trailer and truck. The trailer is maybe a little lighter than I thought. I'll assume 500 pounds of passengers and probably 500 pounds for fuel.
I saw a spreadsheet sheet referenced in the other thread. I did not see a link. Did I miss that?
You are almost certainly OK, but you are closer to your limit than you originally thought. I suspect that getting the WDH setup locked in will solve most of your problems,

Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it. I will concentrate on the WD setup first, and more than likely the shocks too as I already wanted to swap those.
One kore quick question. On the trailer sticker it states 450kg cargo capacity. Is the GVWR number typically inclusive of that cargo number?
1850-1014 = 836bs left for passengers/cargo.
600lb in passengers= 236lb left for fuel/cargo/line-x.
I have the hankooks and I like them. Tire pressure is a big thing, they are max 51psi cold. I'd set 'em at 50psi.
thanks for the tire pressure tip. I went with the door weight cold pressure of 35 but knew in my mind that was probably low. I did not see a number as high as 51.

I'm thinking that is a load range "C" tire....A little better tire for the job @ hand.......Heavier but suitable tire.....
This will give you a slightly stiffer ride & better load capacity & will bear the designation of LT in it's tire size !!.....
Not all manufacturers will offer a "C" rated tire though....You might have to go heavier as a "D or E" rated ??
