Fogs are a joke?

When I started this thread, I was just wondering what others thoughts were on fog lights in general. Now, I'm interested in finding-something that would actually get some good sidelight and still use the factory location in the bumper. I still think they'd actually be useless in fog, but otherwise might be good to pickup Bambi, Yogi, and other big critters about to commit suicide.
The Morimotos might be the ticket for that, and I see 4X4TruckLEDs has a good price on them.
Looking straight down the road, I've got some great projectors, and they do offer more sidelight than the OEM halogens, even on low.
Would be cool, maybe, if a way could safely be found to have the fogs, with possibly the Morimotos, on even with the hibeams.
Morimotos are a great option and are a true projection system. They are more expensive then putting in LED bulbs because it's also a new housing. They put out 1200 lumen each
LED Replacement bulbs work great as well. Since these are not HEADLIGHTS any light scatter (using for example the 3000 lumen kit I sell, which is the "older" style LED design) is defined to the street in front of the truck. The 6000 lumen kit I sell (which is that "newer" design that helps stop light scatter) puts out so much lumen you really light up the front of the truck.
I sell probably slightly more LED conversions in the fog lights then Morimotos... my guess is the price. $30 - $60 more expensive for Morimotos, but the morimotos have that "projection" look and a darker housing, which a lot of people like.
Whichever method you choose is great.
There are also the fog light direct swap ins from Diode Dynamic that I sell a few of. Not as many as the other two but still, some people prefer them. There is a Diode Dynamic LED bulb, which looks just like a halogen bulb (The XP48 and XP80) which throw out 265 lumens (XP48) and 510 lumens (XP80). The XML2 from Diode Dynamics is one step up and almost a conversion kit (no ballast) that puts out 1410 lumen. The XML2 has been more popular these days it seems. Sooo here are your options ranging in MSRP pricing:
Diode Dynamics XP48, 265 lumens: $40
Diode Dynamics XP80, 510 lumens: $90
4x4 LED Conversion Kit, 3000 Lumens: $100
Diode Dynamics XML2, 1410 lumens: $120
4x4 LED Conversion Kit, 6000 Lumens: $140
Morimoto Projection Fogs, 1200 lumens: $170-$200 (depending on year)

Is that from one light, or combination of two. That's a lot of light!! Is that a complete housing? How is the sidelighting on those?

Each bulb states 6000 lumen but it's raw lumen... sooo I figure maybe it's between 4000 and 5000 of ACTUAL lumen perhaps? Yeah they are BRIGHT ask anybody who's used them.
Side lighting is not too bad. They throw some light to the sides a bit but it's low at least... It's a lot of light for such a small housing.

Berty, do you have the Morimotos?

I took a look at the conversions, they look very similar to the LifeTimes I just put in, 5500K, but I don't recall the lumen.
From what I've gathered in the last hour or so, those Morimotos look like what I'm after at this pointe.
Probably very similar... a lot of companies are making these kits now, just like the XML2 that Diode Dynamics has where a lot of companies make the same/similar style LEDs... so you have lots of options out there.
When it comes to fog lights, honestly any LED kit you put in will be better then stock. The XML2 LED's that Diode Dynamic sells will ACTUALLY fit/work in your headlights, but they'll throw light all over which is a bad thing for headlights.
That's why the XML2 are only recommended for fogs, similar to a lot of those "older" style LED kits. They'll work just fine for fogs but a lot of them are BAD for headlights due to the light scatter.
The XHP kits I have (Lifetime has a similar kit I believe, i mean they sell all kinds of LED's so if it's the same STYLE that's the one I'm talking about) work great for headlights and fog lights. A bit more light output then you honestly need in the fog lights but damn does it look good and brighten up that road in front of you.

There must be something wrong with my eyes, mind, or something. I've had fogs, OEM, in four different vehicles. I think they look good, but the only use I've ever had for them is basically so other drivers can see me coming in the rain/snow, instead of using the heads, during the day. I'm one of those that believe, "wipers on, lights on".
I had some money burning a hole in my pocket, so I replaced the OEM bulbs in the fogs on the 150, with LifeTime LEDs, for fogs. The only thing I noticed is that now the fogs match the color of my heads, zero improvement in visibility.
Other than looks, do you guys "REALLY" find a use for the fogs? Be honest now.
