Default F150 advise

New here but not new to Ford. Mustang 6g forum. Thinking of a second vehicle and thinking F150. Thinking about a new or newer(20k or less mileage) Crew Cab, 2WD. 5.0. Doesn t have to be loaded but want a sharp looking truck . Questions/. I know what forums are about but I see alot of issues with trans and AC and electronics. I am aware of the Mustang 10 speed complaints ( I have a 6 speed manual ). I was looking at one (2wd) with 315 rear gears. Are any of them LSD or post/torsion? Tips advise appreciated, thank you. Mark

Ford made improvements to the 10R80 around 8/16/22 with a new CDF drum and outer shell. I would also look at 355 geared trucks with the 5.0. I have the 373 and although I take a little hit on fuel economy I really like the lower gearing. The F-150 is only available with the open differential and the electronic locker. If you want to upgrade to an after market torsion look for a truck with the super 8.8 and open differential or the standard 9.75. At this point there is no option to upgrade the 3/4 floating 9.75 axel that comes with the max tow because it has a different spline count.

I think the other issues you mention are more limited. Some trucks did have AC issues but I haven't heard of this on newer models. Electronics are not going to be any different from other Ford products not considering the power boost.

well I just drove a 24 2wd 5.0 Sport I think and a 23 XLT 4x4 2.7. Got to say I liked the 2.7 better and on the same loop of driving them both I reset the MPGs and got 1 MPG better on the 2.7 4x4 on a mixed driving loop. The search continues. Thanks, keep the input coming.

I would definitely keep your mind open to that 2.7. It’s one of the most reliable, quick, instant torque. It’s a fun drive.

The 3.5 is good now, but it had plenty of cam phaser issues a couple years back. The 2.7 is a completely different platform and the engine is tough. It uses a Compacted Graphite Iron block.

They’re actually not really that similar, other than they both utilize turbos.

Thanks, I just read that the 2.7 was specifically designed to be a turbo.

Indeed. And they did a great job with it. I’ve two. A 2017 and a 2025 and I really love this engine.
