F150 4.2.

I Have a 1997 f150 with the 4.2 v6. It's drives fine when you're not hard on it, but if you need to go it has a hard time reving. It usually has to shift all the way down to first. Can't get it to rev well in second even when accelerating from a stop. Here's what I had done in relation to this issue. I did a complete tune-up on the engine. New oil, oil filter, new plugs, new wires, new coil pack. Also put in a new air intake, air filter, and MAF sensor. About a month ago I tore it down the intake cleaned it and put new clips on the IMRC linkages. I also tested the actuators for leaks and found them to hold vacuum well. Put it back together with new gaskets and also put in new fuel injectors. I cleaned the throttle body and replaced the 02 sensors. I also had my mechanic replace the fuel filter and fuel pump. I am kinda lost any advice would be great! I wondering if it might be a cam position sensor?

You should add more info. Read some of the other first time posts and you'll see the stuff you've left out. It's really common. Your post is vague and you even put it in General Discussion.
Well, it's a 1997 Ford F-150 with a 4.2 v6 with 185000 miles. It has no current codes, but the last one was for the 02 sensors. I have only had the truck for a year so I don't know much on the history. It has had a bad lag problem ever since I got it. You have to give it a lot more gas than you would think and even then it still doesn't want to rev much past 3000 rpm unless you put it on the floor. In which case it usually shifts into first, revs to about 4000 and loses about 2000 rpms when it shifts, Which don't come back up for another half mile.

Sounds more like a transmission problem. The transmission should shift to the proper gear to keep the engine in its powerband and the torque converter slips too for the same purpose. Learn more about how your particular transmission works and search around the web on that. I don't know much about modern automatics, the old ones used vacuum sensors and actuators. Newer ones are electronic.
Just a possibility. It could still be engine. You might take it to a transmission shop and see if they recognize any problems.
