If you buy a totaled vehicle in Texas, does the state have to inspect it before you can retitle it? Was considering buying my car back after an accident. It was explained to me that in PA, the state would have to inspect it before issuing a salvage title. The real kicker was that I was told it could be weeks or months before an inspector would get around to it.

May be worth checking into before you go that route. Good luck and glad that you're safe.

The reason that insurance companies total any vehicle that has water damage above a certain point - it is impossible to determine how the water will impact the vehicle's electronics. If they pay to "fix" it, they don't want to have the owner come back to them because the [random electronic] part is not working.

But, if the OP is capable of fixing the vehicle himself, keeping the vehicle is a decent idea. They are obligated to offer to sell the "totalled' vehicle back to him for salvage value.

I know its a completely different animal but I have two motorcycles, one I wrecked and the other just went down. Insurance totaled both of them and I bought them back. I fixed both of them for under $200. Sure they are "totaled" but you couldn't tell. If you can work on you truck even decently and are willing to put in some hours when needed you could make decent money for upgrades on the totaling.

That's all assuming the truck is something your planning to keep a long time and you don't need the trade in to buy your next vehicle.

Wrecked versus flooded is two totally different beasts. Water will seep into the harnesses and create issues for months to come.

No way in hell would I even attempt to repair a flooded vehicle.

Not in Texas, once the insurance company buys the vehicle from you it is theirs to do with as they see fit.

Since your insurance knows its been flooded I'd be leary if you kept it for any future insurance claims you may have in the future. Your insurance can always claim it was caused by your truck being flooded. I'd wash my hands and take the insurance payout and find a new truck.....

Agreed... Hell, the adjuster told him not to mess with the truck again and just walk away. I wouldn't come anywhere close to a flooded vehicle, no telling what problems could come up...

Default So far, so good.

Running good, transmission shifts ok, used it for several 20 mile trips. Only minor detail: Usually when you stop and turn off the key, the radio stays on until you open the door. Now the radio never turns off, has to be turned off manually. Actually not a bad thing when you want to listen to it while parked. Just have to remember to turn it off like we did in the last century.

I think I will probably let them have it, I'm thinking about getting a new F150 with the EcoBoost. I drove one, was impressed.

At least I don't have to drive 600 miles or more to get away from a hurricane like in Florida. That has to be horrible.

HAHAHA YeahRIIIIIGGHHTTTTT

When my 2014 got wrecked, I could not find another one like it for what they paid for it. They were $5K below anything close to it anywhere around here. They were only going to give me $200 for the topper and bedrug, and the truck was not even 2 years old. The paint was near perfect, no leaks anywhere, I kept the truck in perfect condition, and they were so low on the payout that it was insulting.

OP Good luck and don't let them low ball you.
