  1. Why is the LOMAX perfect for your truck? The LOMAX would be perfect for my truck because of its low profile design
  2. What features are most important to you when buying a tonneau cover? Security and the ability to remove the cover entirely when I need the full bed.
  3. Do you already have a cover, and what brand? What interests you in a new one? I do not have any cover, but have been researching them lately.
  4. What do you use your truck for? Mostly towing our travel trailer for weekend getaways.

I'm giving a shout out for ACI's excellent customer service. Just had a warranty claim with my Lomax cover (seal adhesion issue). Filling out the online claim form on a Sunday and the next day I received an email from Curt stating a new cover will be shipped out shortly. A week later I received the replacement cover. Looking over the new cover it appears ACI addressed the issue with the previous seals with a new design. So kudo's to Curt and ACI for excellent customer service.

Over the past 25 years, every truck I've owned had the same style bed cover. Color matched hinged fiberglass cover with lifting shocks. While they look nice closed, over the years the gelcoat fades, the shocks loose their gas and when opened with oversized loads they act like massive air brakes, killing MPG's. Finally, if I want to remove the cover, a forklift or several willing friends is needed. A positive side affect is when I'm asked to help someone move, I say "sure, just help me take the cover off my truck." They never call back. I recently traded in my old truck for a F150 'SCREW' short bed . It's time for a change.

Over the last several weeks, I've researched every manufacture, option, review, youtube video... if it's on the internet I've searched it out. There are a few companies that pop up for their reliability, customer service, and product quality. LOMAX consistently shows up in my list.

Criteria I use include many factors such as form, function, reliability, ease of installation and quality of materals. However, for me the most important factor is the reputation and longevity of the company I do business with. These days anyone can create a company, import products from overseas, and sell it off eBay. While initially this is easy on the pocket book, it doesn't address the what if's. What if I have a problems with the product over the long term? What if I accidentally break a component? What if I need help during install? In my research LOMAX (AGRI-COVER) has been in business since 1981. They are not a fly-by-night company.

I've narrowed down my search to a couple options. I'm done with hinged fiberglass covers. Softcovers are not an option because as an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, and photographer I may carry expensive equipment in the bed of my truck which I prefer not to lose to someone with sticky fingers and a penknife. This leaves me with three possible options.

Rolling canister style covers. I initially looked into these but have ruled them out. The rolling functionality I like very much but the loss of bed space due to the canister that houses the cover into for me puts them at a disadvantage.

Rolling covers without a canister. These appeal to me as they do not reduce available bed space when opened or closed. They look simple to install and use daily. The one disadvantage I've seen is they are not as simple to completely remove. In conversations with someone I know who has one, his complaints have been water tightness of the cover and on unimproved surfaces the his cover can sound like a rattling garage door.

Finally a folding hard cover. They look simple to use, simple to install, and simple to remove if needed. I like the low profile watertight secure panels that are easy to maintain. There are a couple of companies with options with this design. In my opinion LOMAX looks to hit all the right points for me.

In the next 3 weeks my truck will have a new cover on it. I have a 2000-mile father & son summer road trip coming up and we need a covered bed. Who's will it be?

1. The LOMAX is perfect for my truck because it would maintain a nice, low profile look for the truck while adding functionality that I need, without sacrificing the admittedly limited bed spaced in the 5.5' bed.
2. The most important feature of a cover that I don't currently have is the ability to keep my things dry, but also fold the cover up to have access to every inch of bed space if necessary
3. I do not currently have a cover, but I have been researching them for about 2 months. Was interested in the LOMAX but haven't pulled the trigger because of lack of funding after I unexpectedly needed 4 new tires. I'd love the ability to further secure things while not having to put them in the cab (for instance, all of the tie downs for the boat and trailer after I launch, which stink up the cab) and not have to worry about them walking off while I'm on the water. With the added benefit of essentially tripling cab capacity. When you take the wife and baby on a road trip, the cab fills up quickly with bags and pillows and blankets, etc. Being able to put those things in the bed without worry about if I am going to go through a rainstorm and have to do the bumble bee scramble to get everything inside the truck would be great.
4. My truck is the daily driver. It's always being used to move stuff from my yard, namely bushes, and old landscaping (and new for that matter). Also tows the boat, and is the family road trip mobile. Occasionally also junk hauler for friends. Also functions as transport for most of our group gatherings.

  1. Why is the LOMAX perfect for your truck? The LOMAX would not only coverand secure the bed but would it cleans up the lines of the truck.
  2. What features are most important to you when buying a tonneau cover? Security has to be number one but the added dry space for travel and such hangs right in there.
  3. Do you already have a cover, and what brand? What interests you in a new one? I do not have any cover, have had them on my last two Sport Tracs and have really been spoiled by them.
  4. What do you use your truck for? This is my daily driver used to carry my tools for electronics work and my wife and I for getaways hooked to camper.
