Default exhaust

i know this is a very common topic talked about on every car/truck forum but i need help. I had a flowmaster 40 series muffler on my F150, its a 2000 XLT 4x4 5.4l, but everything else is still stock. I've heard many times that ford cats are extremely restrictive especially the precats that have like a 45 degree bend in them. I just recently blew my transfer case and i had a shop look at, to make a long story sort they cut the exhaust pipe that runs under the transfer case that connects the left side to the right. I ended up fixing my truck myself but since they cut that pipe i cannot just clamp it back together so my exhaust ends right after the cats on both sides.

I want to get rid of my precats and get after market main cats to make my exhaust sound louder. Here is where i need the help. I was thinking about getting headers as well because that will make the exhaust louder too. I was wondering what some people have for headers or main cats that they think are loud. I saw online a company that had a kit that came with longtube headers, it came with 2 after market main cats and it eliminated the 2 precats. It also included the cross connection pipe to bring the left side over to the right. The company is Dynatech. I have never personally heard this exhaust before. No one i know has this brand installed on any vehicles so idk what it sounds like. Does anyone have this brand installed on their truck? Or does anyone have any personal opinion on this brand? If not i was wondering if you guys could recommend a brand of headers that are good and brand of main cats.

Sorry for just rambling on, and for those who stuck through all this and are still reading this thank you very much.

Thanks for all the help everyone.
Aaron

it all depends what area you are in. i have a car and it is really loud and i have 20% tint and legal limit in mass is only 35% and i haven't got pulled over because of my exhaust or tint. But since my exhaust is cut off after my cats on my truck thats why i need to find an exhaust set up because i have no back pressure.

No back pressure is a good thing... Being pulled over is not.. If it were me and you want to keep cats on it (and I understand why) I would get a set of highflow cats, 49 state legal headers and run custom exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers. The right Magnaflow will be quiet at idle and part throttle (ie when the po po are around) but nice and loud at WOT. MAgnaflows decrease backpressure and outflow Flowdisasters. Magnaflows are very affordable even in the stainless steel form.

correction NGM....on a gasser no backpressure is very bad unless you have extrememly high compression....you want some back pressure, but a lot of it is bad i.e. factory exhaust.....

i dont know what the laws are there but if you leave the cats and run straight pipes you will have enough back pressure, so i've been told over and over again. and as far as muffler, flowmaster sounds wayyy better then magnaflow, they may perform better but still, their sound sucks. just get on their web site and listen to the clips of the ones they have on there. you cant hear anything. besides flowmasters have sold more and are on more cars/trucks then any other out there, so they must be pretty damn good. and as far as headers i've heard alot of good things about jba shortys.

now with headers are shorty or long tube better? Like power and sound wise? Also does anyone have any recommendations for high flow cats? I heard gibons are good and also magnaflow makes a good high flow cat, anyone have any opinion on them?
