Vacuum leak is 99% MORE likely to be the problem than either of those 2. Throwing money at it when you have no idea what is wrong is pointless. Do the test I told you about in the second post to this thread.

^ can't hurt to do maintenance if you don't know the past history.

I agree but the odds of it being a fuel filter or criss crossed plug wires are WAY WAY more than the odds of it being a vacuum leak. I have NEVER seen a fuel filter so clogged that the fuel pump couldn't push enough through to COMPLETELY stop the flow and cause the engine to almost die. I mean really, have you ever seen this... honestly... come on.

With that said a vacuum leak isn't the be all end all, there could be a lot of things going on but the vacuum leak is the first place I would start.

^I have. My dad's F250 almost bogged down a few times before he took it in and they replaced the filter. Have you ever seen the crap that comes out of them when you replace them?

Also, what's a fuel filter cost like 7 bucks for these trucks? It needs be done every 30,000 or so anyway.

Try the easy stuff first, Fuel and Air filters, check plug seating, check for vac leaks and check for blow-by from exhaust. All of this is around 30-40 bucks.
