Default Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner worked for me

I have a 2014 Escape that I had Krown protected for the first time this year. The next day the check engine light came on, and the code was P0451 (evap). I tried brake cleaner on the fuel tank pressure sensor, which worked briefly, but the CEL was back on the same day.

I bumped into an old can of CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner on my shelves, and it seems to have fixed the issue. Brake Cleaner doesn't play well with plastics, but the MAF Sensor cleaner does. On my car it's hard to get a good view of the sensor to see where the orifice is, so I sprayed the whole thing well to hit it. It's been a couple of days and it's still working!

Hopefully this helps others!

  1. There are year specific forums which better serve non-general F-150 issues/topics..
  2. Rather than hijack a thread with an off-topic issue, consider making your own post/thread in the apporpriate year specific forum.
    .
  3. Vehicle Information Engine? Miles? Maintenance? Modifications? Specific DTCs (DiagnosticTroubleCodes)?
If you're not going to provide appropriate vehicle information in your post(s), consider putting your complete vehicle information (year, model, cab, trim, engine, wheelbase, _x4 drive, mileage, maintenance, modifications, etc., etc.) in your signature to have it automagically included when you post. *Eliminates playing 20 questions when/if a post is made in the future pertaining to your vehicle.
