Engine light after Krown rust proofing

Hello,

Looking to see if anyone has had issues with Krown/rust proofing. I bought a 2018 XLT F-150 last year. First thing I did after driving away was book an appoinment for rust proofing (I live in Canada eh?! That's what we do). Flash forward a couple months and my engine light goes on. I bring it into dealership get the diagnostics done and am told that my fuel tank pressure sensor is covered in Krown, AND because rust proofing is "an after market modification" it will not be covered under warranty. So I go to Krown and pass this information along asking that they be responsible for the cost of repairs/replacement of the sensor. Krown tells me that this individual dealership (shall they remain namesless for now....) runs this scam on F-150's and Explorers. So back to Ford I go. They tell me that Krown should still be responsible as they are the ones who sprayed improperly. Back to Krown. Krown says that no one has dropped the tank in order to physically see the sensor and they will not even entertain the idea of covering the repair cost until this is done. Back to Ford I go. I am now quoted $1400 for the labour and replacement, and this is after I pay another diagnostic fee (out of pocket) to have the tank dropped and a visiual of the sensor) which would be over $400 additional cost. So I bring it to my private shop and don't give them any back story, just that my engine light is on and I don't know why. They call me back same day and say "your FTP sensor is covered in oil". Back to Krown, Krown calls said mechanic and tells them they need to do their job properly- not just trust a camera and diagnostic scanner. I now decide to get Ford Canada involved and they essentially sluff me and the issue off and say there is nothing to be done. At the end of the day my options are to pay out of pocket to have the tank dropped, then chase down either Krown in small claims court (which will be more money) if they are deemed to be the ones who screwed up or try to convince Ford to replace the sensor if it is indeed just a faulty sensor. I am beyond frustrated. Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated! I currently have my truck in at another dealership for an unrealted recall issue. They have been great so far and are going to look into the issue for me. I may end up back at square one but I may get somewhere! Fingers crossed.

The independent shop came to the same diagnostic as the ford dealer? Your "get it fixed out of pocket and chase Krown in small claims" sounds like the only course of action you have left? Good luck, sounds frustrating.

If a mechanic makes a diagnosis with a camera and diagnostic scanner who is Krown to say that they didn't do their job properly? You don't always have to tear something apart to know what the problem is.

It’s the rust proofing company 100%. That’s frustrating.

Does Canada have a BBB (Better Business Bureau)? If so, file a complaint with them. If that doesn't work or if Canada doesn't have that, go small claims. Sucks to have to do that, but it sounds like the rust proofing company isn't going to do anything unless they are forced to. As much as I would hate spending my time doing these things I would just out of principle.

BBB isn't what it once was, they are more like JD Power now, complaints do nothing.

Krown sounds like a bunch of ass holes that knows their work is **** and has to constantly defend themselves. There is zero reason for them to have sprayed it up onto the top of the tank. They probably were willy-nilly spraying the $35 tank straps. Carelessness and zero awareness of critical sensor locations. That's the kind of service you get from companies that want to spend the cost of a lunch to train their employees, and their defensiveness backs up everything I've said in this post.

Got a similar response from a building owner when my dog got into some green paint that had been spilled on the grass and left by the roof painter. Even before I was able to get to the part where I wanted him to contact the contractor to find out the type of paint so I could determine a course of action for my dog, he was off to the races with accusations against my son (that had walked the dog) for trespassing on his private property (a shopping center) because this occurred after dark.

If you meet an ass hole in the morning, you met an ass hole. If you meet ass holes all the time, you're the ass hole.

Sounds like your only recourse is small claims court or whatever the Canadian equivalent it. That really stinks. I'd be sure to leave some scathing reviews online after this is resolved. Others need to be warned about these kinds of businesses.

Walking on the sidewalk in front of their shop with a sign marked "Krown caused $XXX in damages to my truck and refuses to pay up" would be my approach.

Has it been proven that the failure is a direct result of the Krown product? Wiring and connectors are rather well protected with weather pack connectors. The underside of your vehicle is exposed to many different things in the course of its life. Just because there is Krown on the wiring or connectors or external of the of the sensors does not necessarily mean that that is the cause of the failure. It seems, to me, that the dealership is looking for a fast way out of the warranty and looking to get you to pay retail for it.

UPDATE ALL!!! So I brought my truck to a separate dealership, to say they were awesome would be an understatement! My truck was in for a cold start TSB. I spoke to the service manager and old him my BS story. He said "while we have it in here for the other work I will take a look at it." Calls me 2 days later to tell me my truck is ready for pick up, front end work complete and they replaced the FTP sensor.....WHAT?!?! You replaced it. He says "yup, dropped the tank, sensor had no oil spray on it so we replaced it at no charge." THEN asks if they can keep it one more day to do a full cleaning inside and out. Pick it up the next day and she's beautiful, running smoothly, starting normally, engine light is cleared AND she's detailed inside and out. Hands me my keys and says have a great day. I literally almost cried (what a baby I know). This dealership took away months of headaches without pause! Thanks to all those who commented! If you are in the Ottawa area and want quality service- hit LINCOLN HEIGHTS FORD up. Also AVOID KANATA FORD!
