Unhappy Ecoboost Shudder

I just bought a 2024 Lariat with Ecoboost, currently 500 miles on it. On the way home from the dealership from buying it I experienced multiple shudders on the highway when at speeds from 45 and up and rpms at about 1200. When lightly accelerating it was like I ran over rumble strips until I got the rpms up. Since then it has happened multiple times yet not every time. I read old forums about this but was for F150s in the 2011-2021 timeframe. Would have thought Ford would have fixed it. HELP!!

Time to turn around and take it back to the dealership.

Don't think I haven't thought about it. Unfortunately, where I bought it is 120 miles away. Local dealership recommends I get past the 1k miles break-in period then if it's still happening, which I predict it will, they'll analyze. Fear is that lots of people (2011-2021 owners) have taken them to the dealership and nothing seems to get done and Ford often says it's normal for that engine and transmission set up. this kind of shudder should never be considered normal. I was hoping someone else has had the same issues recently and has gotten it fixed and can pass on the solution.

Local dealership likely isn't in a hurry to help since you didn't buy from them. I'd be making calls to the original dealer to have them come pick it up and drop off a loaner...get your salesperson/sales manager involved if you don't have any luck with the service manager.

Could also be just the truck learning how you drive and determining the best shift points. This can happen whenever the KAM (keep alive memory) is cleared so keep that in mind down the road. Computer will need to relearn everything. If this is the case, I've been told it could take up to 500 miles for the learning process to complete and things to smooth out.

I just picked up my 2024 XLT 3.5 EcoBoost (my 13th new F150) this past Saturday, and I have no shudder, shimmy, waggle, wobble, stutter, or stumble, nor have I had any in any of the new F150's I've purchased over the years. What the OP is discribing is not normal and needs to be looked at.

Interesting point because the manual does talk about "unusual driving characteristics" the first 1k miles. I guess this is the "learning." Maybe why the dealership recommended waiting to bring it in till after the break-in period. It's the track record (history) that scares me. Thx!

Just an fyi, the transmission you have is completely different than anything from 2011-2017/18. So I’m sure a lot of things you read have nothing to do with it and it’s not some on going same issue.

Appreciate the feedback about transmission and past issues not related. This is very helpful for me to not get off track with the past!!

I would most definitely be taking the time required to either go back to the dealer I bought it from if I were experiencing anything like that. No one will ever convince me that any kind of shuddering like you described is normal for any reason in any vehicle. Driving another 500+ miles on something that is doing that cannot be a good idea.
