Default DriveTrain Noise Please Help

Guys, I'm brand new to this site and I just finished reading almost all of the posts (at least pertaining to problems I have had) I own a 98 F-150 4x4 with a 4.6L. My problem is I have a rubbing/grinding (but not grating) noise coming from some where in my drive train. A buddy of mine suggested I get my rear diff oil changed so I did this today in the hopes that it would be resolved. No such luck. The rubbing/grinding sounds like a rotation type of rub/grind and is proportional to the speed of the vehicle. I am not sure but I feel it is coming from my left front, but of course that is where the driver sits right? I know....I have made a scheduled appointment here in Lafayette La. at Hub City Ford for a diagnostic this coming Tuesday (4 days away) But if I can find out what it is and repair it my self prior to then I will save myself the $85.00 plus tax flat fee. Anybody have any direction? By the way this is my 3rd F150. My first two were "78"s both with in line 6's which I feel are the best truck engine ever built! So as you can see I love my Fords but am at my wits end here. Please help?

sounds like it could be a wheel bearing. and i agree the inline 6s are an awesome motor i have a 91 f150(my work truck) 225,000 miles and still runs like a top. but the gas mileage they get is a different story i get 8-10 mpg at best.......

Thanx Boxer, I appreciate your reply! I hope you are correct about the bearing as it would be the cheapest fix out of allthe others I have been having nightmares about. As far as the 300 in-line 6's go, yeah you're right the gas mileage was kind of brutal but those vehicles could pull down a house! When I was having issues with my transfer case in one of my 89's 3 speed standard, I used throw it in to 4 low, clutch it into granny gear (1st) and hop out and observe my front drive shaft to ensure it was turning. I was young what can I say haha. But my point is that if that vehilcle was pointing straight up hill and you placed it in 4 low and threw it ito first it would drive itself forever! Those are some real Trucks! I hope you enjoy yours!
