Default Differential Flush

We have a 2014 F150 6 cylinder eco-boost with 46,000km. We tow a 7000 lb (dry) trailer approx 10,000 km per year. Ford is recommending a differential flush. Is this necessary? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look in your owners manual, the first red flag I see is them calling the procedure a "flush" There's no such thing on a differential, you pull the cover, the fluid runs out, you replace the cover with new gasket and refill it. Done.

I could be wrong about Flush - but is a change at this # of Kms necessary, They want $500.00 to do it.

dont do it , only thing getting flushed is money out of your hand. that truck would come w/ full synthetic diff fluid good for at least a 100 k miles. even then a change would only be maybe $100.00

The rear is an easy DIY job. Just look up some YouTube videos. Buy the fluid and the gasket maker goop. Block off an hour to do it in your garage.

I did the rear myself in 15 minutes at home with basic hand tools. I spent $12 on fluid and $3 on silicone to seal the cover back up.

Do not let the stealership rape you on a simple diff. fluid change.

Remove the fill plug, then pull the bolts and remove the cover, wipe all the junk off the magnet in the bottom with paper towels, visually inspect all spider gears and ring gear for damage, put cover back on with a bead of silicone to seal it up, let it dry for 30 minutes, refill with two quarts of synthetic gear oil, put fill plug back in. It's literally as easy as changing engine oil.

$500 is way to high. I would not think they would charge you more then $100. I also have never heard of a flush sence you just take the cover off and drain the fluid.

Unless that was the service center's term and they're trying to dupe the cust into paying a lot for a fluid drain and refill by using a fancy word... and you know what? I bet it works for them all the time
