Right on buddy, blue/grey is oil being burned. Unfortunately, a compression test is not a conclusive test. Many an engine with weak or stuck oil control rings will have excellent compression, why? The answer is the oil is sealing the compression rings. The engine is probably ready for an overhaul. Other areas to be considered are valve stem seals and valve guides. Your running a 5.0 or 5.8, wish I had a quick fix for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

basically i'm not doing a teardown in the fall, outside. $400 at the junkyard for a 302 and prob 200 to install. the rear main is leaking anyways so i might as well bite the bullet and have a happy ford once again.should be in by the 26th

You know for a fact the engine has a rear main leak? Believe the 86 vintage used a push in full seal for the rear main. Instead of the split lip seal. If you are interested, we used to take a pressure regulator, dial it down to 3-5 psi, connect it to the dipstick tube, cover the valve cover openings and pressurize the crankcase. With the aid of WD-40, spray the rear main seal to verify for leakage there or infact at any gasket surface or seal. Might do this before install to check for other exterrior leaks. Wish I was there to help out, fun stuff!
