Default transfer case cover

Hello- this forum thing is new to me but I have a 1993 F150 that I cracked the transfer case cover tightening the plug too tight. I found a new one on e-bay yesterday but I was wondering if I needed to pull the case out of the truck or can I just swap the cover out? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the site, and that is a very loaded question. Sure would like to see a pic of the xfer case before opening mouth and inserting the whole thing.

you cracked a transfer case by tightening a fill/drain plug too tight? lay off the roids forreal.

but common sense would say that you could just replace it while its on the truck, i dont see why not. but dont tighten those too tight either

yea, tapered plug, aluminum case and no brains = cracked case. Right at the plug in two places and it wont happen again it looks like it can be replaced in the truck but i have no experience w/ transfer cases.
