I could and did live with 4x2 trucks for years in the northeast. I would definitely buy another 4x2 anytime. I would definitely buy a "all wheel drive" truck. With that said, I have a 4x4 now and it's a nice $4000 insurance option to have on a a truck. Need, no.

Most of the time, yes. But when I need it, I really REALLY need it.

Every winter in my RWD Ranger. Some weight, 240#, good tires, and living in ice/snow winters my entire life, I really don't have much of a problem. This past winter, the 150, with 4times4 stayed parked from just before Turkey Day until late March. Oh, I live in northeast Michigan, yes, we do get snow.

I love in southern california where it NEVER snows and i still wish i had 4wd. It always kills me when I have to maneuver a trailer and get stuck. or when someone else gets stuck and i can't pull them out. or when.... etc
you get the point.

Get 4wd unless your truck never sees dirt

I had 4w drive with my 04 Explorer and the only time I used it was launching my boat.

Needless to say when I traded it in on my F150 I got a 2wd and am not missing the extra.

For my serious mall crawling, no need for 4wd

Snow here is as bad as it can get...... plus they don't know how to plow. I could swing a non work rig as a 2wd sometimes but it would be a pain. I know because I have done it.

Work on the other hand...... forget it. Between the mud in the summer and snow in the winter it's not an option. I have the usual perfect setup as I run good tires, have some form of locking rear diff and lots of weight from my equipment in the bed. It only gets you so far.....
2wd trucks are worthless on time of resale as well here so it would be just dumb to own a new one......

Very good point!! Here in the city/burbs, 4wd brings less resale value. Demographics play a large role in that aspect.

I wouldn't completely agree to that.

I have had 4X4s in the past and never used it, so I spend the 4X4 money on the 402A for this truck. But now I hunt and fish a lot more. I'm happy with my truck but will never buy another 2WD, never know when you may NEED it!

This past year I have had 12-15 friends and family members buy new trucks. All but two of us got 2WD the others are 4X4. And I can say I have seen very very few new 6.7L in 2WD.
