I'm looking at these two tires.

It appears the A/T3 has a more aggressive tread? I've had the H/T Plus, and I would say it's probably close to a replacement on the Scorpion ATR's.

Anybody familiar with the A/T3 versus the H/T Plus? I need tires. Right about meow... before the first snow. I'm down to the wear bars.

I have the A/T3 and like them a lot. They've been great on pavement, on dirt, and with the little bit of snow I've seen since installing them. No perceivable road noise either.

Here's the deal - my "off-roading" adventures are limited to driving down to the woods that I deer hunt on, no mudding to where I need an aggressive tire. I just want to make sure I keep with something stable for winter driving.

I'm afraid the AT/3 might be a little too aggressive for my mostly-pavement driving. Any comments there?

Thats why I lean towards the H/T Plus... but the tire shop is suggesting I check the AT/3 due to the mileage warranty and such.

 

The Discoverer A/T3 certainly is not a "mud tire". It's more of a highway/off pavement tire with excellent snow traction ratings. I'd say these fit perfectly what you're looking for - definitely better than the H/T Plus if you're looking for a good winter tire and one that you can drive through the woods to your hunting land.

By the way, Consumer Reports rated the Discoverer A/T3 as the best All Terrain tire they studied, and gave it an "Excellent" rating for snow traction. In case that means anything to you....

 

The A/T3 have a very similar tread pattern to the old Discoverer A/T's. Had them on my Ranger and they worked very well in the snow.

 

I'm not all that worried about a "snow rated" tire for example. I just don't want a tire that's crap in snow. The Pirelli's were OK, Goodyear Wranglers were good. Cooper H/T (before H/T Plus) were good (had them on a 2004 Dodge years ago).

Basically 90% of my driving is dry weather. I have 80,000 miles on the truck I bought in late May of 2010...so I do a LOT of driving. Ride & Comfort are huge....but I just want to make sure I'm not THAT dumbass in the ditch in the snow either. Hell, that blizzard in the Midwest 2 years ago with something like 14 inches of snow? I made it into work that day...

That being said, snow isn't my biggest concern either. I also want to make sure the tire I get doesn't kill my fuel milage, which I hear occasionally with more aggressive tires too...

I get 16-17mpg average on the truck right now... sometimes 18 ave when I am actually "trying" lol

 

I have a set of the AT3 on my work truck (2011 Silverado ext. cab.) I have put about 20,000 miles on them and they still look very good. They have been great tires so far, but havent had a chance to try them in snow yet. Winter is just around the corner though. I think you would be very happy with the AT3's

 

My Cooper discoverers gave a good ride and no louder than any other A/T I've used. Staying with stock tire size, you shouldn't notice a difference in mpg. Probably a little worse than a highway tread, but I'd never go less than a decent A/T.

 

I've got 43000 on my AT/3 with no issue. I do most of my driving on highway. Have not any issues, and MPG not affected.
