Console shifter vs. steering column shifter

Had the column shift and the folding center console/seat on my 2013 XLT SCrew... the "console" was junk compared to my new 2017 with buckets and console shifter. Never did have anyone ride in the middle seat upfront...
Go with the real center console, bucket seats and either column or console shifter...

This is my first truck and I'm pretty traditional, so I was mildly disappointed when I showed up to look at it and saw it had a console shifter.
However, shortly after, I came to love it. It's very comfortable and definitive in the gear positions. I've also driven manual for over 10 years so my hand naturally always rests on it also.
I don't need the jump seat, other than to move women closer to me. I'd rather have the console

Center Console Shifter for me!
In the market for an F-150 and I noticed the two shifter options/locations. I would prefer the middle console shifter since I've been used to having that in my other vehicles. I've found they aren't as common as the steering shifter.
I also found having the 40/console/40 setup isn't as common either. I'd prefer that instead of the middle jump seat.
Did any of you get your truck with one shifter and/or middle console setup and later wished you had the other? I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet and get what's available now, or wait to see if something pops up that I feel I might enjoy more..is there really that much difference between the two aside from looks?
What setup do most of the people on this forum have or prefer?
Thanks for your help!

My Ford has it on the steering column, my Tacoma in the floor. I'm always reaching in the wrong place when driving either of them. I have a slight preference for it on the floor, but there are so many other things to consider. When I bought my Ford it was the closest thing to perfect at the best price that I found. I wasn't going to pass it up just to get one with a floor mounted shifter that didn't meet other, more important criteria or that cost more.

My preference is the console shifter. Second choice would be the column shifter with the flip up console for an extra passenger. Not a fan of the console and a column shifter, the console is cavernous, I’m not sure I’d need the tiny bit of extra console a column shift would give.
Of course, that’s personal preference, and is why there are so many combinations. It keeps everyone happy!
