Buying used advice
So I’ve been looking for something around 20-25k and I just want to know if it worth buying a newer truck around 100k miles for this price. Im not really towing much right now but want a bass boat in the future. Any help is appreciated Im gonna be daily driving this around 15 miles a day to work and back so the 2.7 gas mileage looks good
Everyone has an opinion so here is mine: I buy used and plan to drive for at least 10 years, I want creature comforts and am comfortable w/diy mods using FORScan adding Lariat features to an XLT, and I want reliability. I buy Certified Preowned from a Ford dealer and I buy extended warranty at purchase. I read this forum daily and understand a lot of threads are posted by complainers and that most satisfied owners never post,
As I’ve aged I no longer buy higher mileage vehicles. If you are younger, can buy from a reputable seller you trust, are comfortable with the risks involved in a 100k mile vehicle (and I was there a few years ago) then check everything out including having inspection by a trusted independent mechanic before you buy. A friend of mine says “when you buy used you buy someone else’s problems”. Idk about that but I’ve bought used for most of my life and have only been scorched once and I cut my losses on that (GM) quickly. Good luck.

When you get to the point of looking at specific vehicles, remember to get an independent inspection, either from an independent shop you trust or one of the national companies that will travel to the seller's location.
is there any specific engine I should look for any pros or cons of some? Im looking for 2015+ and definitely under 100k and willing to go up to 30k.

I like to find an off-lease truck from a dealer. When buying off-lease more than likely the owner usually just trades them in at 3 years and jumps in a new one.
So I feel the risk of buying someone else's problems are a lot less this way.

I agree with everyone, I can't afford 65k for a truck so I bought my current 2010 5.4 3v last year.
I knew the issues of the 5.4 3v and I paid slightly high for the truck, came with service records from 2010 to 2023. Original owners farmer,
I got it with 132k miles and I paid 15k it was listed for 18k this is in Canadian prices..
Put the 3k towards the timing chain replacement and it just started to act up.

I can't afford 65k for a truck
I also understand that $45K is more than some can afford and there isn't anything wrong with buying used. My current 2014 was bought used in 2016. But you need to get out a calculator and work the numbers. Not saying new is best, but you really need to work the math and consider the options. If someone's budget is $35K for a used truck with 70,000 miles, then $45K might be a better deal on a new one. They are now offering some great interest rates on new ones, some as low as 2%.
Trading the old truck in while it still has decent value matters too. My old truck would bring about $15K which means I'd only have to pay sales tax on $30K instead of $45K saving me over $1000 in tax vs just buying the truck with no trade-in. My truck sold new for $35K. If I sell it for $15K I have $20K in the truck. The next owner has $15K in it and he gets to pay for all of the repairs.
I might be able to afford it but won't pay it. I can buy a new 2024 XLT crew cab 4X4 with the 2.7 engine for closer to $45K. I have no need for the higher trim packages and an XLT gives me what I need. I'll probably be trading my 2014 in for something similar sometime next year. I may buy new, may buy used. It just depends on what I find and the deal I can get.

If it were me, I would personally up the budget and look for lower mileage, or just look for lower mileage with less creature comforts/luxuries. I would have a very hard time parting with $20-$25k for something with 100k miles on it.
