Buying a new F150. 3.5 or 2.7?

Hi there. I'm looking at a new F150. i've heard good things about the Ford V6's. I'm not towing anything heavy, so should I go 2.7 or 3.5? I'm going to avoid the Hybrid - too complex and the V8 is pretty thirsty. Having said that, the V8 should run on 87 Octane, but if the V6 needs Premium fuel, I might just burn more (but cheaper) gas in a V8! Also, the 10 speed transmission worries me a bit. We're getting rid of Lincoln Nautilus with an 8 speed transmission that is failing. Pleased here your thoughts! Thanks

The 2.7 will run on 87, pretty sure it's the same for the other engines. If your not after every bit of power and response possible, 87 will not be a problem.
Ford recommends 93 when towing to help control engine heat. Some run it all the time to enjoy a little bump in performance and economy, but the gain doesn't offset the extra cost.
I personally run 89 with a 5 star performance/tow tune as a compromise for every day driving, I don't tow.

Both EcoBoost will run just fine on 87. Slightly better performance, especially in the summer and/or towing/hauling on higher octane, but not needed.

They advise 91 octane in the 3.5, but only when towing. I'd assume the 2.7 would be the same.
I do tow quite often, but nothing heavier than 4000-5000 lbs and usually even less than 4000. The 2.7 will do what I want to do if it is equipped properly. I plan to buy something sometime after the 1st of the year and I've been looking at what is out there, how they are equipped and what they are selling for.
While I like the 2.7, I'm not seeing a lot of trucks with that engine equipped the way I'd want it. Actually, none so far. Lots more options with the 3.5 or 5.0 equipped the way I want it.
