Well than Airaid is the exception because as I'm sure you know, the K&N kit as well as others does not have an enclosed box and is wide open to the engine cabin air.
How much did that kit cost out of curiosity? As I'm sure the OP would probably like to know as well.

Sounds right IF you are going off of the average MPG on the Edge. BUT you will find if you fill up, and calculate the MPG manually at your next fill up, that the edge is very generous with it's numbers.
I feel that my K&N added a huge jump in "seat of the pants" hp. Hot air or not, it made a difference. Taking out the stock restrictive system is a good idea. Looked at the "gots mod" and wasn't impressed. Less restrictive air flow and more volume is the key. If you are worried about the .5 or 1 hp loss due to hot air, then you are a professional drag racer. LOL... I love my CAI, worth every penny. Some people love em, some don't. You will hear many opinions on both sides. You have to decide from that on what you want. I personally get them for most of my cars. I feel they are worth it.
FWIW ... I`ve got the SCT X3 with a custom tune on my 5.4 Screw and get between 15 and 16 around town and have seen low 19`s on the highway . I do have a CAI and a Dr Gas crossover with a Spintech dual system .
Last week , I decided to run an experiment . I loaded the 93 octane program and filled up with premium . Mileage appears to be a lot better ( opinion , not fact yet ) than with the "standard" tune , but I have to wait until I run the tank out to check . By my warped logic , even though premium is more expensive ( about $.23/gal ) , if the mileage improves to the point where the cost per mile ( more mpg ) is the same or better , then I`m ahead ( or at least even ) of the game .... and the truck is more fun to drive .

yeah, mine was showing 16.5 when I filled up and I actually calculated 15.5
