Default Air Conditioner Pressure High

I have a '99 F150, 4.6L, Extended Cab, 4X4 with 307,000+miles. Had new A/C installed in June 2009. This summer, A/C worked fine when the hot weather started, but started to intermittently blow ambient air. (example) I'd start it up at home, blew nice cool air all the way to work. Leave for lunch, warm air. When it worked, it seemed charged. I mean really powerful cool air. Now it has stopped blowing cool altogether. Last week, I attempted to charge the system, just to see what would happen. When I connected the hose, the pressure gauge on the can was WAY inside the red zone. Directions say if that occurs, seek professional help. It appears to me, that the compressor cannot release the pressure buildup. I live in a small mountain town in Pennsylvania, and no mechanics in town will touch A/C.
I can't afford dealer prices, and at 307,000m, I don't want to spend a lot anyway. Does anyone have any ideas? Is there any hope of fixing the problem on a budget? How do I release that pressure. Could it be a thermostat? I'm at a loss. Please help.

Sounds to me like you might have a blockage. I would evac the system, flush the system, vaccum overnight, make sure you hold vaccum, refill to spec and see if that helps. If you need further, pm me and i'll send you my cell number.

If the compressor isn't on, it's going to be in the red. High and low sides balance out when the compressor isn't pumping, meaning the high side will be low and the low side will be high.

May be as simple as a dirty, partially plugged condensor.

Too many variables to say for sure in a forum, need someone trained in how to repair it to put hands on.

Anything else is speculation that will cost you $$$$.
