5w-30 is also spec’d for the NA engines for severe service conditions, so there’s that.

I would have to find the link, but there’s a thread from a Mustang forum with posts from a guy who was one of the engineers on the modular engines. He said he wouldn’t recommend 5w-20 in ANY modular engine.

Your Jeep is NOT a Ford so get that crap out of your head. It's like comparing apples to basketballs.

So we walked them back to the service bay and let them watch us drain and refill their engines with the proper weight oil and all but one of them came back to thank us for showing them that the engineers that designed the engine knew what they were doing.

Not sure on the last one, he probably had his *** on his shoulders that he was dead wrong.(he demanded 20/50 because it was summer) The manual called for 5w20.

Your engine, you make the call but from my professional opinion if you use the wrong weight oil regardless of miles, you're asking for trouble. I've only built a handful of engines over the span of my 40 year career, 11 as a Ford line tech.

The tight tolerances of today's engines are just that, you try to push too thick oil thru them and they starve.

You can spin your response any way you like but my answer remains the same. Use what your manual states.

Thank you for the info....it is what I'm seeking

I thought I saw that somewhere...maybe in the owners manual...not sure.
Thank you

Aren't the new fords saying 10,000 mile oils changes now ?
Seems to me a 5w30 might be best for engine protection...just saying

They have an oil life monitor but yes up to 10k miles or 1 year.

No way I'm doing that on an ecoboost.

Not using the 'blend' oil either. Full syn not more than 5k and I'm changing out the factory fill probably at like 500

And here we go

I used 0w-30 in my 2016 5.0 for 30 000 miles without any issues.

One time I serviced a new engine.....like you early.
The oil catch pan had the sun behind it as the oil spewed out.... it looked like the oil had glitter in the relatively clean oil against the bright sun.
Ever since I've done the same thing 500...1000 miles it gets an oil change.
Even if the filter may catch it...I feel better about it....oil is cheap

And 75,000 miles isn't much. With todays engines 200,000 seems to be the new minimum people expect out of their engines. 400,000 miles isn't unusual anymore and there are some with 1,000,000 and counting. And that is with the lighter weight oils.
