Just got a 2011 f150 xlt 5.0. I notice at idle there is an intermittent shallow knock. Normal for this engine or no? Going to the dealership Monday to get the slip yoke greased to hopefully fix the light shudder on take off

 

 

Not normal. i have a 2014 F150 5 liter. Quiet is normal

I know ford had a lot of bad engine blocks dating back thru 2011. Unfortunately they couldn't put a definite track on which ones were bad. By bad I meant that they had oversized cylinder walls which were causing some unwanted knocking. Some were worse than others. Ford knows about it but claims they have no "engines grenading" because of it. So they say it's"normal". Some were worse than others. So the games begin on who makes the call on block replacement. Your service manager or the area Ford representative. I had a 2013 which developed a knock at 11,000 miles. Ford rep says it's normal and I'm supposed to be ok with that. Service manager disagrees but can't fight ford. So he gives me the extended warranty for free to help me sleep better at night just in case it all goes south. I can't live with that. Traded it for a 2014 with the 6.2L. Happy ever since. No issues or bad history with that motor.

 

Brought it to the dealership today. Their first response was that they didn't hear anything. But when I got there they said that they did hear it in the bottom end. Should be covered under warranty! Wondering what their diagnosis will be. I'm guessing the timing chain tensioner or something in the block itself like a rod (who knows.)

 

Hey y'all!!!! My dealership just called. Defect in the block.They have the short block on order. Good thing I was persistent huh? 2011 xlt super crew 4x4. And nearly out of warranty 58,000 miles. Just bought it last week for 25 grand.other the than knock the truck is sweet and super clean. Maybe next week or whenever it's finished I can actually enjoy it!

 

My truck is in the dealer right now for a short block replacement. They called it cylinder wall distortion. Today is 2 day they have it so I imagine its in pieces... I posted the video so you can here mine.
