I just picked up an 02 FX4 and I have noticed that Low Range indicator in the dash does not come on when I switch it to LR. I'm new to dash mounted turn type 4X4 switches, and new to F150's in general. Will it only switch to Low under certain circumstances or is it broke. The indicator is functional, it turns on when I start the truck. Probably a stupid question but WTH. Thanks and feel free to rip me up if I'm an idiot.

 

i believe you need to put the truck in neutral to bring it into 4 low. you can put it into 4 high is at any speed below 25 mph. but dont quote me on that. im sure someone with more knowledge will answer you shortly.

I believe the gear box has to shift into low before the lite comes on.

Mine does the very same thing, but in high range...the indicator light comes on when I turn the key on, but when I switch it into 4-High the light doesn't come on but the transfer case engages... Weird.
