1st you have to be real paitent..... Plus a lot of spare cash. I'm asuming you're a pretty good machinic cause it involves a lot of taking apart the old parts n making the new parts fit.

You'll need to go out and get a new differential, new axel for the front. You'll also need to change out the transfer case along with your engine, tranny and possibly the clutch too.

It'll be much cheaper if you went out and got a new 4x4. But if you're gonna use this to experiment a 4x4 convertion project. I say go for it. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my truck in the future.

Im assuming you have an 80-96 F150. I've done a couple of conversions on these trucks.

1st was 87 2wd to a dana 60 solid axle swap.

2nd was an 92 2wd to a IFS swap.

An IFS to IFS swap isn't too bad. It really helps if you can get a donor truck to swap suspension components from. Then its just a matter of transferring components. Even then its a fair bit of work and you'll need to be mechanically inclined with a good selection of hand/ air tools, jacks/ stands etc.

Soo, if you've got the time and money it's definitely do-able.

DITTO!!! add smashed hands, crap in your eyes, elavated blood pressure when something goes wrong and you start making like an enraged male Baboon

With the thousands of F150/250's 4X4's for sale out there it really a waste of time, and money to convert one. If you want a 4X4 sell what you have and use that money to help purchase one.

I don't know where you live but here in Wyoming F150/250 4X4's for sale are everywhere, every used car lot in Cheyenne has at least one if not more, and there are trucks for sale by private parties all over. this is a good area to purchase such a truck, there are a bunch for sale which tends to bring down the price, and most important we do not use salt on our roads so you can get a 10 or more year old truck in fantastic shape.

there isnt many trucks in manitoba where i live that are in good enough shape to safety so i think it would be easier to convert it, plus next summer i need to get my block and trans worked on so i think im sure that i wont have too much of an issue, plus i can brag to my friends i did it.

he's asking how to do the conversion... if he wanted everyone to tell him to go a 4x4 wouldn't he be asking which one to buy?
Just my 2 cents
I've actually heard it isn't incredibly difficult, and is a day-a day and a half job.
I've considered doing it myself.
