Angry 3.5 Ecoboost is a Junk engine

I have a 2013 F150 crewcab 4wd with the 3.5 ecoboost motor. All I can ask is what engineer at Ford thought this motor was a great idea. I am only getting11-14 mpg and due to what I think is caused by the turbos putting stress on the exhaust manifolds I have had to replace both exhaust manifolds and get the bolt closest to the firewall on the manifolds extracted because both have broken off at the block. Anyone have this same problem? The current issue is that something is multiple misfires, and yes I have replaced the packs and plugs with motorcraft packs. the strange thing is that this only happens when I get on the gas on interstate. Any insight because spending of 5k this year on the truck has really pissed me off and more than likely will deter me from ever buying another F150

Have the issues with the truck been properly diagnosed and repaired by a reputable shop and certified mechanic, or have you just been throwing money at the issues and now you're mad that $5k later it's not fixed?

yes it was done by a reputable shop for the right side less than a year ago. I did the left side and it was rough

didnt they revise the manifolds to use the extra bolt hole or something because the manifolds were warping and breaking that rear stud? Im not sure what years that might be

again, I was thinking it'd been fixed for the 13s but do ya think its blowing junk out of the intercooler into the intake? Like is getting on the highway the only time you romp on it?

Even if it's not fluid in the intercooler at medium to heavy throttle in a higher gear it's a high load situation and cause a misfire to rear it's head.

That being said, are you SURE it's a misfire - do you have codes? Transmission shudder and such can feel an awful lot like a misfire

If it was me I'd drill the 1/16" weephole just so I could eliminate the chance there may be condensation in the intercooler causing misfires.

The rear bolts closets to the firewall broke off on both of my 3.5EB manifolds at 98,000 miles. Luckily my truck had a 100,000 mile Premium care warranty and I only had to pay a $100 Deductible. I wonder if Ford ever redesigned the manifiolds?

This is why I got a 6.2L. Yes, there are many yeah, I got 400K miles out of my Ecoboost with just oil changes but I just don't feel that lucky.

12 years of problem free miles with a first generation Ecoboost 3.5 motor. The engine isn't junk, sounds like you had some bad luck with it. Outside of the annoying timing chain issue they are dependable.

Did you buy this truck new? How long have you had it?
