Anyone using this tire size. I've got a few months, but the factory 275/65/18's that came from the factory will need replacing soon. I don't really want a dramatic size change. I'm content with the ground clearance and power I'm getting now and want to keep things close.
Just looking at options and it appears the 265/70/18's will be about 1/2" narrower, and 1/2" taller. Not enough to make a huge difference in performance, but the combination of a slightly narrower tire and slightly taller tire should create the illusion that the tires are taller than they really are. Narrower tires do better in mud, snow and often get slightly better fuel mileage than wide tires. Sand, rocks, or desert conditions where wide tires are a plus are almost never encountered. I drive mostly hwy with dirt, muddy farm roads and forest service roads are common. Prices I'm seeing are very close. More options in 275/65/18, but there are enough in 265/70/18 to meet my needs.
Just wondering if anyone has tried this size and if they liked them. Pics would help. I haven't decided on an exact tire yet, but it'll be an all terrain. Still undecided between LT or P series, but leaning toward P's.
Truck is a 2014 Screw 4X4 with 5.0/3.55 gears BTW.
275/65/18 Mich LTX A/T 2 are P rated and weighs 40 pounds
275/65/18 Mich LTX A/T 2 that are LT are 52 Pounds.
275/70/18 Mich Defender P Rated are 40 Lbs also
275/70/18 Mich Defender LT Rated are 49 Lbs.
I have the 275/70/18's P rated on some of the 2 wd trucks, And they are excellent in the snow. No loss of power
I always go up one size in aspect ratio on all my vehicles- the extra inch (or more, in some cases) helps fill out the wheel wells. On my '12 F150, I went from 275/65-18 to a 275/70-18 Courser AXT. There have been no clearance problems.
And the stock tire is wider than I want. I want a little more room to run chains on the rear and still leave room for the vehicle to flex off road without tires touching sheet metal. Don't want to fill the wheel wells, but leave some room for movement without lifting.
