2016 f150 front transfer case is getting hot and leaking
Have a big problem my son is in Colorado. His truck was in four-wheel-drive started making a grinding noise got hot and is leaking.from the transfer case .. Now even in 2wd Drive making the noise getting hot and leaking. Is it possible to pull the front driveshaft and drive it 600 miles .

Yes you should be able to drive it that way if you can get the shaft out. Not sure if there is anything in the way of pulling the shaft out once unbolted. Hopefully the issue with the transfer case isn't on the side that still spins even when not in 4WD. At least that is my understanding. Could be wrong.

What trim level?

If it's still getting hot in 2WD, pulling the front driveshaft won't fix that unless the truck doesn't disengage the IWE's, which would always keep the output side of the transfer case spinning.
Has the fluid level been checked? If it's been leaking and ran low, could have damaged bearings on the input and intermediate shafts, in which case pulling the front prop-shaft won't help. Disconnect the front shaft, drain and replace fluid, see if the noise remains. It's only two bottles of Mercon LV, so a cheap check.

Couple things need to be clarified before much help can be given.
There is only one transfer case, are you talking about the front differential?
Knowing the trim level of the truck would help as well.

Sounds to me like he is talking about the front differential. If he is then it would seem like putting it in 2WD (assuming the wheels disengage) would allow driving without spinning the front differential. In the old days manual hubs made this easy.

I have the same impression, but if he has a Lariat or higher, he has the TOD transfer case, he would still get some power to the front diff. Then the drive shaft would certainly need to be taken out, then hopefully the IWEs are working. A photo could be helpful as well.

In the original post he stated it's getting hot and making noise in 2WD as well.
And that was three days ago. I'm starting to lean towards not hearing back.
