2016 5.0 Performance
I just purchased a 2016 F150 with the 5.0. I'm very underwhelmed by the performance. The bottom end is sluggish, and compared to the ecoboost I feel like I may have made a mistake. Has anyone tried the Roush power pack level 2? It's exhaust, cold air, and an ECU flash. Will that wake this thing up?

Gear ratio?
I was comparing used 2012-2014's and drove both 5.0's and 3.5's. I sorta wanted the 3.5, but every single used one I found had 3.31 gears and every single used 5.0 that I found had 3.55 gears. I felt the 5.0/3.55 combo was at least the equal to, if not peppier than the 3.5/3.31 combo. With a used 5.0 selling $1000-$1500 cheaper that made my decision. Had I found a 3.5/3.55 at a reasonable price I probably would have gone that way. But I'm not at all disappointed in my decision.
The current 5.0 has even more power, but I'd bet a 5.0/3.31 would be quite a bit less potent than a 3.5/3.55 truck.

3.55 gears is the most you can get in the 5.0 now unfortunately.
Skip the Roush stuff and just get an SCT X4 programmer with custom tunes from 5star or MPT. I personally wouldn't buy anything Roush unless it was a supercharger kit. You won't get any performance benefits from their CAI or exhaust.

Would agree that a tune/tuner would do much more for much less waking your 5.0 up. The CAI and exhaust add very little gain in performance especially for the money spent.

I don't think that's correct. If you build an F150 on Fords website, you can select 3.73's with the 5.0. I was building a crew cab XLT 4x4.
I have a 2016 with 3.31's and 35's and it doesn't really feel sluggish to me. Of course I never floor it, and even when I need to accelerate quickly it does just fine. 5.0 with 35's and I'm still getting 16-17 MPG, I'm very happy haha.

A 5 star tune will definitely wake up the bottom end. I think it's mostly due to trans tuning, throttle sensitivity and maybe the removal of torque management. I can spin my 34s off the line if I want. 5.0/3.55s
I had the same opinion of the half ton engine choices when I bought this truck. Coming from a tuned 6.7 Cummins they both felt sluggish. The tune definitely helped.

You are underwhelmed because the 5.0 is running a break in program. Give a few thousand miles and it will start to perk up. The more miles the better it gets.
The eco and the 5.0 are 2 different beasts and you should have known that going in. Blame yourself for not knowing the difference.
