The Coyote engine is the Ford 5.0 that returned in 2011, being used in the F150 and Mustang. There have been 3 generations of Coyote engines thus far, gen 1 2011-2014, gen 2 2015-2017, and gen 3 2018+. IMO the best is gen 2, as it has hardened forged internals but without the extra complexity that came with gen 3, and so far gen 2 has proven to be the most reliable, though gen 1 wasn't bad either. Gen 3 has issues with oil consumption, but for the most part is a solid engine as well.

So far, so good on my '16. Seems to be everything else that goes bad... Bought mine used and it had a broken bedlight switch, also looks like one of the rear passenger door lock actuator already went bad and was replaced. Just recently my front passenger door lock actuator stopped working, moonroof was also stuck, but I put some pressure on it to get it to unstick and then lubed it up. Other day I noticed the passenger IWE grinding, but it went away after I turned truck off and back on. Double checked the solenoid for vacuum and seems to be in order, little odd. But the powertrain is doing well.

It's the 5.0 V8 engine.

Thanks for the info. I just picked up a 19 5.0 on Wednesday, so I guess that’s a Coyote. Looks like my habits won’t change with changing oil every 5k like with my old truck.

Check your engine oil level often.

My 2016 has 43,000 miles on it now and it runs smoother than it did when it was brand new. I left it running yesterday when I went in the post office to check the mail when I came back I realized I could barely hear it running. When it was brand new the ticking and clicking made it noisy. My cousin is a mechanic and said not to worry about it. A brand new engine should be very tight and needs time to wear in.

My truck has been great, especially the engine. It's silky smooth from idle to redline and the sound still puts a smile on my face. I put my foot in it for no reason other than to hear the Coyote howl sometimes.

Edit:
I also like how Ford names their engine families:
3.3, 3.5, and 3.5EB are Cyclone
2.7EB is the Nano
5.0 is the Coyote
3.0PSD is the Lion

In the SD trucks:
6.2 is the Boss
7.3 is Godzilla
6.7PSD is Scorpion

Good thing about buying a used 2015 to 17 is it’s already gone through all the tsb’s and recalls. I bought my 2017 new and had the warped dash replaced,(which I didn’t even notice) my sunroof malfunctioned and was replaced and some sort of bank sensor went bad.
Usually in the first year or two is where most of the little things happen. All that happened in the first year for me,but ever since then, just regular maintenance.
2017 f150 xlt 302a package 5.0 with 77000kms or 46000 miles for the Americans.
If you look at one with the sunroof, buy some silicone spray for the seals, otherwise the glass trim sticks to them and snaps open jarring the track which causes it to fail. I use it now and it opens smooth like butter.
Hope you find a solid truck whichever route you take.

What does the dashboard have to do with the engine?

Nothing to do with the engine. Was just another question I had about issues I’ve read and heard about people having, and since I was receiving good feedback, I didn’t think it would hurt to ask about any experiences with that.
