2014 FX4 vs 2017 XLT New
Can anyone help? I have a choice between two trucks posted at the same price... $40k Canadian. A 2014 FX4 totally loaded with sunroof, Leather, Tonneau, Max Trailer towing package. This 2014 has 11,000kms and is in mint shape. The alternative choice is a 2017 XLT with cloth interior, and 301A package. This is a nice truck....just not as nice as the 2014 but it is brand new and has the 10 spd automatic. We are going to be towing a horse trailer of about 8,000 pounds a total of 300 km 3x per year.....the rest of the time, the truck will see very little usage, except for moving clients from their homes (I am a realtor). Would love peoples opinions on which truck to buy. By the way, the 2014 FX4 is beautiful....but 3 years older and not under warranty.

Financing a used vehicle can be costly if you cannot finance yourself. Typically the rates are much higher. Might be something that doesn't affect you, but should be something you consider.
Maybe you could post the window stickers of both trucks and that way it would be a lot easier to compare them.
Personally I wouldn't go with the 301A, I need my Android Auto.

I think that would be a tough call. There are pros and cons to both trucks. I like the outside looks of the 14 better, but I really like the interiors of the 17 a lot better.

I love my 2013 and was ready to buy a 17 or 18 but it has everything I want and need and the 6 speed works great.
No way I would give up the bells and whistles I love and need for a little newer plain truck.
I would buy the 14 and buy a ESP (Ford Protect) warranty and be covered for the next 5 years. They sell an ESP for used vehicles outside the factory warranty period and its Ford owned, not 3rd party. They do a quick vehicle inspection, since its used, and if it passes you can buy the warranty.
You can get a 5yr-48K mile Premium ESP (bumper to bumper) for around $2K through an online Ford retailer. This also includes rental car coverage for warranty work.
This option gets you a loaded '14 truck with only 11,000 kilometers that will be covered until 2023, much longer than the '17 will give you.
Also you can buy the ESP warranties on a payment plan so need to throw down 2K if you don't want to.

Here's a different perspective, the 2014 has the body style of 2 generations ago, which means when you start to put on the km's it will decrease a lot faster than a new 2017. why not look for a used 2015/16 with 50k km's. would probably spend 30-38k. and you have some money left for upgrades or maintenance of anything that comes along. i have 75k km on my truck and only had one problem.....caused by me.

I would shop '18s and forget about either of those. That way you're financing a large amount of money on something that'll hold value longer while you're paying it down. Plus the newer trucks are lighter and will drive better.

Looks like it is the 2017
Hi all......thanks for your replies. Looks like I am going with the 2017 truck due to the 10 spd tranny and the newly designed 3.5L EcoBoost engine. I will know in 5 years whether I made the right choice for sure.
