2015 F150 soundscreen windshield cracks for no reason
My windshield started to crack from the bottom up and then curved into the drivers view. No dings, scratches or any reason for this to happen. I'm going to show the shop cause they say they've never seen this. From reading the posts it seems like this might be a problem with soundscreen windshields. ??

Better insulated (sound). I think there's a layer of vinyl between the glass layers to reduce road noise.
Dealership replaced (outsourced) my SoundScreen windshield 1 month after I got it because it was stained from the inside and they put a non soundscreen windshield. I was furious, but after readings, it look like the soundscreen windshield scratches more easily than the regular one. Plus, I did not notice any difference between the 2.

2015 F150 soundscreen windshield crack
I took the truck into Ford service and the tech ran a pen down the crack and found a chip where the crack started. It's small but definitely there. Way down below the wiper near the bottom of the windshield. He told me these chips down low on the glass almost always start to crack.
The soundscreen is suppose to be a quieter and maybe thicker windshield. They cost a bit more than the standard to replace. I can replace with the exact sound screen windshield for about $500.
I have a 500 deductible on my insurance and the tech at the glass shop gave me some good advice. Since 90% of comp claims are for windshields it might be a good idea to pay a bit more for insurance to lower the deductible. I haven't checked yet but I'm going to. If it's a couple bucks more a month for a lower deductible might be worth it.
