Default 2011 tow package

This may be a dumb question so bear with me. Long story short:

I'm considering a used 2011 Ecoboost that was traded in at a Toyota dealer and I think I can get a great deal on it. Will be using it to tow, so.... if a 2011 Ecoboost RWD has the towing harness installed, can I assume this is the "trailer towing package" factory option? Just want to make sure it is set up with the trans cooler and transmission upgrades as opposed to just having a hitch installed.

I have only seen pics of the truck as the dealer is a distance away and the guy I'm dealing with can't say for sure if it is the "trailer towing package." Every F150 I've shopped on a lot has a tow harness, so not clear if they come standard with the harness and "tow package" is an additional option...?? or if I can assume if the harness is there, it has the tow package? Hope this makes sense.

Try getting the VIN and calling a ford dealer. They should be to tell you what you want to know.

The Vin is a great idea you can see the build sheet with that website using the Vin : http://researchmaniacs.com/VIN-Numbe...cker/Ford.html

works with my truck and shows the tow package

the VIN is the best way to tell for sure. I've seen some aftermarket hitches lately that looked very close to factory

You'll also find out the gear ratio, limited slip or open diff etc.

Like they said, just get the VIN and replace the vin in the above link with yours and you will find out everything you need to know.

I would also make sure it has no shutter at 55 like others r complaining about. I would fully fully test drive it. I love my f-150 but there is lemons out there make sure .

Outstanding advice - thank you for the heads up... some very intimidating threads out there on this subject that I was not aware of. Must say, I've seen my share of similar quality issues having owned a Jeep.

I wonder what percentage of vehicles are having that problem. With well over 100 documented on this site alone it's enough to make me think twice about buying one of these things. Nothing worse than buying a new vehicle only to experience problems that obviously cannot be fixed. Sems like the issue is most noticeable on hills and while towing. Since I live in FL won't have any hills to test this on.

I was able to finally lay down and accept the "It's a Jeep thing" mantra (if you've ever owned a Jeep you know excatly what this means), but don't think I could accept "It's a Ford thing" or "It's an Ecoboost thing" if I decide to shell out that kinda coin.

I was concerned why an otherwise brand new (less than 5000 miles) Ford was available for sale at a Toyota dealership.....

PS - thanks everyone else, was able to pull up the original window sticker with teh VIN and find out everything I need to know.

You could ask the the salesguy to give you the name and phone number of the previous owner. Hopefully the last owner will be straight up on why he traded it.

Hey guys - I'm new to this site and just purchased a 2012 F150 Ecoboost with max towing and 373 rear. Never heard of any problems with this set up, can you enlighten me or steer me to a thread?
