I recently purchased a used 2010 FX4 and have realized that the Microphone in the Headliner is not working. I try to create a Voice Recognition Profile and when asked to speak my name it cannot hear me no matter how loud i speak. So I've not gotten any further than that. I cannot use any of the Voice Systems either for Nav, Audio Control, Phone & Voice. Also, when connected via Bluetooth and someone calls, it rings through the system and I can accept the call. However, I can hear them but they cannot hear me at all. It seems my Sync is working fine as well, as it has no problems connecting to my phone, playing music etc.. I think this Mic is bad. Anyone else have this issue or know what the Fix is? Has Ford put out any Service Bulletins? I have Extended Warranty Coverage but I want to know what the issue is before taking it back to the Dealer and getting the run around. Any help is much appreciated.
You've done a lot of great troubleshooting already, IndyGuy. It does seem to be an issue with the microphone. The one step I recommend trying before taking it to the dealership is called a master reset: http://support.ford.com/sync-technol...ter-reset-sync
If you don't notice an improvement after resetting, send me a PM with your name, VIN, phone number, and current mileage and I'll let you know how I can best assist.
Thanks for the reply.. I did the Master Reset and still nothing. I'm pretty sure there is a fault in the Mic. It could possibly be a bad connection in the wiring or maybe the Mic itself is dead. Guess it looks like I will be taking this into the shop as i am not keen on ripping the headliner out to investigate, especially since I have a warranty that should cover it. Do you know if this is a common fault or if Ford has a SB out on this already? Is there a replacement recommendation I can advise them of? It would be good to know when I get to the shop to save fault finding time.
I have a charcoal one that I bought based on a bad diagnosis. If you are interested, drop me a PM. It's not hard to replace yourself. You access the connection by removing the light/sunglass holder to the right.
