Default 2006 Ford F-150 XLt 4.2L engine Broke with 80,000 Miles

I got my son his first Truck , at 60,000 Miles in 2016 paid 10,000$ coz of low miles.we had no issues for 2 years . Recently got oil change done late March at Ford dealer it was less than a Month, Monday Night He said he said he saw check Engine Light and anyway he drove to school next morning Hoping we can check the code After school and unfortunately the Truck died in the Middle, When i went to tow it ..I saw the Oil pressure indicator staying Low and (Son said he did not see any fumes or anything but heard cranking noise before it dies) i added 2 quarts of oil. And able to crank it back and drove slowly ..took it a shop and they did diagnostics and said could not build pressure back and it need a new engine and gave me estimates for $8000.They could not figure out if there are any leaks and/or what caused it. I asked was it oil pump but they said even replacing oil pump will also not help, I just needs a New Engine. we do see few drops of oil dripping in front of the house where we park but its not like puddles of oil leaking that all 5 quarts will be gone.in less than 30 days. Is there anything i can do other than buying a used engine?

I Am about to buy one from Junk Yard available for $1500 and Taking it to a Friend's shop who gave me a quote of $2000. But my wife putting doubts inMy mind what if it turns out to be a bad engine Again and we be loosing another $4000 , so i am not able to decide what to do..I put it on sale for Parts $4000 ..we tried to sell in December '2022 and we have people asking for 9,999$ as we kept it very clean. Now its worth not even 25% of it If no One Buys.

Did the two quarts bring it up to between the marks? Not clear how low it was.

A bad oil pump will not reduce the quantity of oil. If you ran low on oil and the bearings ran dry then major damage will happen. Doesn't matter why it was low on oil. Just that it was.

No, the reading always stayed far left , before and after adding 2 quarts

Need recommendations from people who had success in replacing the engine part and things to be aware of before going that route

Left?

There is a high (H) and a low (L). Not clear what you're saying.

Oil pressure gauge I believe is what he's referring to

Thanks, that fits. Then the dip stick was not checked. Add two quarts, try to start the engine. Lots of wrongness here.

Many ways to get screwed on a replacement engine. If people don't know vehicle maintenance and mechanics they better have some friends that do. I'd find a trustworthy friend. One that knows things.

How sure are you that you had the correct mileage when you bought the truck. Odometer fraud is a real thing.

Did you ever check the dip stick?

does it run and drive now?

I don’t know your market, but no way I would spend $4k on fixing that truck. You could likely buy another 4.2 11th gen for that money.
